Battle Mage Secrets - Sometimes You Just Need Some Luck!
The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Heavy Hitters ruleset this time! This means all units gain the Knock Out ability. Be sure to include a unit with Stun in your lineup to trigger the knock out.
It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!
So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.
Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Common Water card, Cruel Sethropod!
Cruel Sethropod is not a commonly used card actually. Despite being just a Common card, the Level 3 version packs a huge amount of stats and is definitely very strong, way stronger than what other Common cards are. 2 Melee damage, 3 Armor, 4 HP, how's that? For low mana battles, with the ones with Little League, Cruel Sethropod is the top choice for me as the tank.
As usual, here's the lore for Cruel Sethropod for your reading interest:
Sailors tell many tales of the dangers of the Cruel Sethropods. Armed with strong pincers and teeth as sharp as spears, they attack anything that gets within range. It is nearly impossible to remove a Cruel Sethropod once it has latched on, and many a sailor has the scars to show where they ventured too close.
Battle Type & Team Lineup
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
Summoner | Kelya Frendul | 4 |
For low mana battles without Magic cards, my preferred element would be Water and Kelya Frendul would definitely be the top choice here because of the Armor boost.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
1 | Cruel Sethropod | 3 |
Cruel Sethropod packs a very tanky set of stats for a 3 mana card, especially when Magic cards cannot be used. With 3 Armor and 4 HP, this is definitely a good choice for the tank.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
2 | Tide Biter | 3 |
Tide Biter is one of the strongest Water Melee card with Reach, coming at with 2 Melee damage at just 3 mana. He slots in nicely behind the tank, and we are down to the final 10 mana.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
3 | Isgald Vorst | 5 |
This being a Brawl fight, Gladius cards can be used. Opted for Isgald Vorst, a little expensive on mana, but with Bloodlust, this could be worth it.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
4 | Pelacor Bandit | 3 |
Pelacor Bandit takes the 4th spot. Not a strong card in terms of attacking, but its high speed and Flying ability sometimes would pose difficulties for the opponents to hit, especially when Magic cards are out of play.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
5 | Igor Darkspear | 2 |
The final card would Igor Darkspear, coming in at 5 HP for a 2 mana card, that's good enough. The 1 Ranged damage would be a bonus.
- Pre Battle: I was actually stunned by the similarity of both lineups when they came out. The first 3 cards were the same, while the final two cards were Melee and Ranged cards. Would Luck play a role in this?
- Round 1: The hits were more or less identical as both teams held firm because of Cruel Sethropod.
- Round 2: Both lineups were really neck to neck in this, with both Isgald Vorst doing identical hits and getting the same Bloodlust. This is getting interesting.
- Round 3: The neck to neck battle continues as both Gladius cards got another Bloodlust each. Down to the last 3 cards.
- Round 4: How identical can this be? We are down to the last two cards, with both Gladius cards facing off each other now.
- Rounds 5-6: The millionaire dollar question now is who would strike first in the next round?
- Rounds 7-8: And I had the luck in this one! Not too sure how the game decides which card should go first because both had the same stats, and mine wasn't Gold Foil either. So that's a win! A close one of course.

Post Battle
Did my strategy work? I think both teams came prepared in this one. Both lineups were pretty solid and I just had some luck today. Phew! It was definitely interesting to similar or close to identical lineups fighting neck to neck, because the level of excitement is definitely different.
What's the Battle Mage Secret? Cruel Sethropod is definitely a strong low mana tank! The Level 3 version of course. Hehe!
So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!
As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
