Battle Mage Secrets - The Giant Killer Strikes

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Five Alive ruleset this time! This means up to five Units can be used. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is an Epic Fire card, Djinn Inferni!

Djinn Inferni packs a very interesting ability called Giant Killer, which deals double damage to big cards which are 10 mana or more. It's not a common ability to have, especially for Level 1 cards, and when used at the right battles like Fab Four or Five Alive, it can make a difference. Even without the Giant Killer ability, having 3 Magic damage for a 7 mana is pretty decent. The only downside is the HP, which makes it a little squishy and very vulnerable to Opportunity hits.

Djinn Inferni is the eldest of the ancient wardens of fire, spirits of flame that dwell in the deepest rivers of stone. Second only to Lord Janai himself, he is prideful and cunning, but fiercely loyal to his master. With the opening of the rift and the betrayal of Djinn Muirat he has taken up a blood oath of vengeance against the chaos exercitus, rising to the surface to lay waste to the enemies of stone and fire.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

This was a guild brawl and having a Five Alive ruleset meant that I needed to put big cards for the battle. In this case, have opted for a Fire lineup with 2 Gladius cards so Eternan Brune was the natural choice.

1	Gorth	8

Gorth is an extremely strong card and definitely is a good tank. With 5 Melee damage, it's definitely not easy to handle.

2	Chimney Wallstop	10

Chimney Wallstop makes a good pairing with Gorth as they both work together to take down the enemy, and regardless who gets the last hit, Bloodlust will be triggered. It's a big card requiring 10 mana, but with Bloodlust going, it can become a strong card as well.

3	Djinn Apprentice	5

Djinn Apprentice is a fuss free Magic damage card. 2 Magic damage for 5 mana is pretty decent and the role here is really just to deal damage.

4	Djinn Inferni	7

Djinn Inferni has a hidden ability that could be useful for such battles with big cards. And that's Giant Killer. Not only does it deal 3 Magic damage, the Giant Killer might come in handy as well. So that's a sure pick.

With tons of mana left to fill, I was spoilt for choices but decided to go with Lava Launcher, which was also another decent card, good speed, good damage and can attack from tank position.

• Pre Battle: Just by looking at the levels of cards, it's pretty clear I had the weaker lineup and that opposing summoner packed a ton of abilities. Let's see how far my lineup will go!
  

• Round 1: One downside for Fire cards is that they tend to be lower in HP and the opposing Level 2 Chaos Dragon just went off blasting its hits, and effectively dealing 7 Magic damage a turn. I was down to bare bones even though no cards were down yet.
  

• Round 2: It might look as though my lineup was coping well but there was just too many Blast hits from my opponent and all the cards were concurrently getting weakened. It's a miracle that I was still matching the numbers of cards on the board.
  

• Round 3: It's almost game over for me as I couldn't overcome the healing from my opponent as well. The Level 2 Chaos Dragon was causing too many problems for my team.
  

• Round 4: Wow, not done yet! Was still sticking around...
  

• Round 5: Alright, there we go! A battle that I didn't think I could have won given my current card collection.

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? My strategy was okay I thought - I think the main difference was the level of cards. Level 2 Legendary summoners and Level 2 Legendary cards are not easy to handle with lower level cards and that's always something that's work in progress for me.
