Battle Mage Secrets - The Underrated Epic Card For Low Mana Battles

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Armored Up ruleset this time! This means all units get a +2 armor buff at the beginning of the game. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Epic Reward card, Tide Biter, which I think is quite underrated because I seldom see it being used in battles.

Tide Biter is a card that I seldom see in battles these days, but at Level 2, it's a very strong card. Coming in 2 Melee damage at just 3 mana, it is very handy especially for low mana battles and Little League battles. At 4 speed, it attacks extremely early in the game from the 2nd position, and with 4 HP, it's already quite tanky for a 3 mana card. That said, I do feel that it is quite weak at Level 1 - so make sure you get the Level 2 version at the very least.

As usual, here's the lore for Tide Biter for your reading interest:

The vampire now simply known as the Tide Biter was once a human. He was a sailor who loved the seas, and all of his adventures were successful due his powerful water mana spells. As a mage and captain of his ship, he commanded great respect and admiration. When a vampire attack caught his ship on the open ocean, however, he was nearly killed. Bitten and thrown to his death in the water, the sailor thought his time had come.

His powerful connection with the water saved him. He healed his mortal wounds, but could not stop the vampirism from transforming him. He knew his old life was gone. He embraced a new life of piracy, sailing under the moon and drinking the blood of murders and theives. If he was to be cursed with this disease, he would use its power to enact his own form of justice.

The Tide Biter is fueled with a vengeance for the manner of his change. Sailing across the seas of Praetoria, he hunts the vampire that turned him. With the love of his crew behind him, he sails the open waters of the Splinterlands, forever hunting his quarry.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerKelya Frendul4

Kelya Frendul is my go to summoner for my Water lineups for most of the battles because the armor and speed boosts are applicable to any kind of lineup. The additional armor will definitely come in handy for this battle too.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Sea Monster8

Sea Monster is one my most reliable tanks because its Self Heal ability makes it very strong. I decided to ignore the Close Range and stuck to my default lineup that I was confident with.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Tide Biter3

Tide Biter is a very strong Reach attacker for low mana battles, and he makes an excellent partnership with Sea Monster.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Torrent Fiend0

Torrent Fiend comes in as a filler card and since it doesn't cost any mana to field, why not?

  • Pre Battle: When the lineups showed up, I was slightly surprised that my opponent could field up to 5 cards for 15 mana. Lots of damage output there, but let's see if Sea Monster can tank this battle well.
    image.png
  • Round 1: Sea Monster and Tide Biter combined to take out the first card, leaving 3 vs 4 now. Being an Armored Up battle, it was an uphill task for Melee attacks, but let's take things one step at a time.
    image.png
  • Round 2: Sea Monster somehow had difficulties withstanding the barrage of attacks from my opponent and it looked like my opponent had all the advantage at the end of this round.
    image.png
  • Round 3: Speed mattered as Sea Monster and Tide Biter combined to quickly to take out another card, and we are now evens at 3 vs 3.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Sea Monster is still hanging by a thread!!!
    image.png
  • Round 5: I stared in amazement as Sea Monster continued to self heal itself and stayed alive for yet another round! This time, it hung on with just 1 HP. The opposing Madcap Magus was a tough nut to crack because of Life Leech and I didn't expect myself to turn this tide around.
    image.png
  • Round 6: Sea Monster and Tide Biter were simply perfect this entire battle, we were almost done!
    image.png

  • Round 7: Lots of battle scars and bruises, but we miraculously won!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I got partly lucky over here. There were many occasions where Sea Monster could have gone down but it was a case so near yet so far for my opponent. The self healing ability for Sea Monster was just way too strong, and that is also one of the reasons why it is a strong card for low mana battles. Beyond that, Tide Biter played an extremely crucial role dealing 2 damage consistently every round which helped to bring down the opposing cards fast too. Without either of them, I would have lost this battle. 15 mana battles need not be complicated sometimes - just take Kelya Frendul, Sea Monster and Tide Biter and who knows, it could be enough!

What's the Battle Mage Secret? If you need to excel in the low mana battles or Little League fights, Tide Biter Level 2 is a must have in your card collection!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
