Battle Mage Secrets - The Water Card That Players Used To Be Crazy About!
The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Rise of the Commons this time! This means only common and rare units may be used in battles. Summoners are unaffected by this rule.
It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!
So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.
Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Rare Water card, Venari Wavesmith!
Venari Wavesmith used to be an expensive and popular card for players who play Water. Its Protect ability is sought after so much and everyone just went crazy over the water rat. At one point, I think it was trading about USD 3 per piece, but you can get it for USD 0.017 now. The good old times. That said, its Protect ability is still crucial in the right battles and one just has to use it more selectively. It's still a good card nonetheless, and I am not sure if players still remember how popular this card used to be.
As usual, here's the lore for Venari Wavesmith for your reading interest:
A massive race of rat-like people called venari have lived in the Strite for thousands of years. They are skilled technicians and mechanics who can make advanced devices and tools the likes of which Splinterlanders have never seen. The venari control powerful forms of magic that they have synthesized from the minerals and mana flows of the Strite. Through their complex field of science called smithing, they have been able to create and recreate many types of natural and magical phenomena from any magical element.
Battle Type & Team Lineup
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
Summoner | Kelya Frendul | 4 |
With Rise of the Commons in play, I stuck to my most familiar element, which is Water. Kelya Frendul is an all round summoner and the extra armor fit the ruleset very well too.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
1 | Cruel Sethropod | 3 |
Cruel Sethropod is extremely tanky for this battle, boosting 3 armor and 4 HP, before the summoner's boost.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
2 | Deeplurker | 6 |
Deeplurker is one of the strongest Common cards around and it's always a great card to field for Rise of the Commons battle. The Opportunity ability will be extremely handy here.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
3 | Isgald Vorst | 5 |
This was a brawl fight so Gladius cards are allowed. Isgald Vorst is another strong Common card with Opportunity ability and is very similar to Deeplurker. Both cards should be able to cause some problems for my opponent.
Position | Card/Level | Mana |
---|---|---|
4 | Venari Wavesmith | 5 |
Venari Wavesmith used to be a very powerful card and for this ruleset, its Protect ability is extremely important because it gives the team extra 2 armor.
- Pre Battle: I had the better cards coming into this battle because they were of higher level. My opponent interestingly went for 3 big cards instead of 4 smaller cards. Let's see if I can win this comfortably.
- Round 1: Right from the get go, my opponent's Gladius card was causing me problems. It was tough to field a Melee card with Shield.
- Round 2: Things weren't looking so good as my Cruel Sethropod went down and my opponent's Gladius card gained a Bloodlust boost. This made the fight tougher for me, but fortunately my two Opportunity hits took out a card from my opponent's backline. 3 vs 2 too.
- Rounds 3 to 4: It was all huff and puff from both sides over 2 rounds the board still looked largely similar. Which team will be the first to break?
Round 5: Both teams were pretty on par at this point and both teams took out one card from either side in this round. That's 2 vs 1 now. And we close in on the win.
Round 6: One final hit from Isgald Vorst and we hung on till the end.

Post Battle
Did my strategy work? There weren't that many strategies that could be employed in this battle because having 3 rulesets make things very restrictive and complicated. That said, I went with the element that I was the most familiar with, and picked the cards that could do the job. I guess having one more card made the difference as well.
What's the Battle Mage Secret? Venari Wavesmith used to have its glory days. Never forget how strong it can be.
So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!
As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
