Battle Mage Secrets - Who Is The Best Summoner For Rise Of The Commons Battles?

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Rise of the Commons ruleset this time! This means only common and rare units may be used in battles. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a summoner, Delwyn Dragonscale!

Delwyn Dragonscale has a very strong ability of +1 Magic damage - which I know some prefer Alric - but being a Dragon Summoner, it means you can go for any element that you want! Although it packs a 5 mana which is relatively expensive, it is often worth it when it is used in the right rulesets.

Some time ago, Daria Dragonscale nearly lost her twin brother Delwyn to the Burn that had stricken so many of the scaled. She would have lost him completely, but at his deathbed she hired the services of a dark sorcerer who transferred his soul into a special Heliosoulstone. While he was suspended inside the stone, Daria traveled to the Earth Splinter, where she visited the Flesh Golems in the root of the Elder Tree. With their help, she created a new Golem from fleshy scraps. Delwyn’s soul was transferred into the new Golem, and Daria had her brother back… forever.

With Back To Basics being a ruleset, I decided to full out in a Life Magic lineup so I enlisted the help of Delwyn Dragonscale, hoping that my opponent wouldn't use Bortus.

Blinding Reflector was used as my tank as I needed a card with low mana to buy some time for my backline. Having 3 armor and 4 HP seemed pretty decent.

Time Meddler was the secondary and probably the actual proper tank, having Dodge ability and packed a good amount of HP and damage.

This was a brawl match so I could use a Gladius card. Always feel like Captain Katie deserves to be at least an Epic card with the Snipe ability because she is such a strong card.

With the mana quota running low, Time Mage was a decent card to fill. With okay damage and a Slow ability, which might or might not be critical in battles.

Another attacker just to deal damage, nothing much to say.

• Pre Battle: My opponent put up a stronger lineup in terms of levels of the cards so let's see if my Magic lineup can overcome this stronger team.
  

• Round 1: My Blinding Reflector was swiftly dispatched but soaked up a significant amount of damage and I managed to clear their tank as well.
  

• Round 2: Delwyn Dragonscale's boost really boosted my damage output as my opponent was down to his final two cards after two rounds.
  

• Round 3: And we were done!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? While my opponent had higher levelled cards, but experienced players would know it's not always about the level of the cards. It's the strategy, the choice of cards, and the synergies between the cards. This was a simple fight given that the ruleset excluded many cards, but my lineup was pretty simple as well - using a Magic summoner and packing my lineup with Magic attackers - and they got the job done!

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Delwyn Dragonscale is a good summoner for Rise of the Commons and even Back To Basics battles.
