Walking To A Better 2023 - Thinking About The Big Picture

To improve my fitness, I had previously set a goal to clock an average of 8,000 steps on a daily basis for 2023. To put the numbers in perspective, my average step count for 2022 was about 4,656 steps.

It has now been ten months into the year and I thought I would share my progress and reflect on my journey thus far.

The Numbers

October was a back to usual, where I had to return to work and the step count inevitably took a hit. That said, am proud of myself that I managed to clock at least 7,000 steps. As for the overall average, it increased from 7,168 to 7,188 steps currently. That said, it is still way short of the 8,000 steps target.

I was actually doing some rough math, and I realised that it probably would take a miracle for these last 2 months to get to 8,000. With just 2 months left, it really would be quite difficult to pull the overall average from 7,188 to 8,000 steps actually. I say this with a little regret, because I see so many wonderful readers rooting for me and cheering me on, but in any case, will try to end this on a high note! :)

Thinking About The Big Picture

I would share bits about my life along this journey of Walking To A Better 2023, and this month is no different.

As the year comes to an end, I started reflecting and asked myself what was the original intention that I had when I chose to set this goal.

The answer in my mind was: I wanted to be more active and exercise more.

And why so? I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle and take care of my body.

And it was clear. While I might not achieve my target of 8,000 steps per day, my increased step count from 4,000+ steps last year to 7,000+ steps this year was a clear sign that I was more active and put in more effort to exercise more.

In addition, I have also started going swimming about once per week/fortnight, and I think that's another step in the right direction.

I guess, there's nothing really disappointing if I fail to hit my target come end 2023, because from a big picture perspective, I have gained from this. Of course, health and fitness is always work in progress at all ages, so consistency to maintain this routine is key.

What do you think?
