House Maintenance/Repairs
Just Keep Digging!

Septic Tank
Once again I been MIA for a little while. This time it was just two weeks which I have been away from my Hive Blog. A major part of my absence was due to some repairs/maintenance that needed my immediate attention. I have a septic tank that needed digging up which took some time as I did it by hand using a pick and shovel. I somehow managed to snap the pick in two pieces early on in the dig. I had no clue where the tank was located as I'm not the first owner of the current house I occupy. As luck would have it I did manage to locate the tank with the first dig attempt. After reaching the cement tank I measured how deep down the tank was. The septic tank ended up being roughly three feet underground. I almost stopped digging to try another spot just before I found the tank. In the moment I was reminded of the meme that has two guys digging for a diamond with one stopping just before they find a diamond and the other that keeps pushing forward to uncover riches. Of course in my case I wasn't looking for diamonds. As luck would have it, I dug directly above the tanks cover. So now I'm waiting on the company that pumps septic tanks out to show up. There's no immediate rush but I do believe the tank is reaching its full point. It was pointed out to me the washer drainage (after a handful of uses) was starting to back up. They should be here within the week at which time I will have to recover the dug hole.
Water Works
A day or two before the above I notice a water leak in a copper pipe that is close to my downstairs ceiling in my basement. Upon starting the repair I realized the issue was more dire than I initially thought as it wasn't just the copper elbow that was leaking but somewhere between the unseen pipe in the ceiling progressing into the wall was another possibly multiple leaks. For now I have cut the water supply to said pipe using a shut off valve but will be repairing that over the next days. Luckily I don't think it will take too much effort. Deciding on how to do so out of the multiple possibilities will take more time than the repair itself. For example do I just repair the current pipe (not likely) or do I just replace the full section (most likely) and what type of pipe to use. Do I stick with Copper or replace with PEX. I do believe I'm going to go with PEX since I have it at my disposal. Owning a house is great and by no means am I complaining about repairs but they do seem to sneak up when least expected and multiple at a time. The leak did manage to get some stuff I was hoarding in the basement wet which gave me good reason to toss such things; which isn't a bad thing. I sometimes hold onto stuff for a little too long (that's right I don't just hodler in crypto I do in real life too sometimes lol). I had a nice outdoor fire just yesterday that got rid of most the unwanted/slightly damaged stuff. I'll be back to a somewhat regular posting scheduled in the upcoming week or two. Thanks for reading, see you next time: Same Rent Blog; Same Rent Channel.

Coincidentally, I have been having plumbing problems too. Been going on for almost 6 weeks. Even once it is resolved there will still be work to be done. Cleaning up the basement, fixing damaged walls, etc. At this point I've learned so much I could go into business as a plumber.
I hear you;
That comment made me smirk a little. Your thought processes seems to be the same as mine. One can learn on the fly and quickly when the situation calls for it. House maintenance can be a good teacher.
I love the image, sometimes you don't know how close you are to your goals.

Agreed, sometimes the end goal is right around the corner.

you need a good sturdy steel rod to probe for the "diamonds" 😉
Probe on Amazon Just make sure and get one longer than 3 ft haha
😁 well at least the shut off valve is holding. Seems everyone I have to close leaks 🙄
I thought about that but digging area had some movable but decent size rocks/boulders. I wouldn't been sure if I hit one of those or the tank. Still its certainly worth a shot and something I'll do if I ever have to find another.
Your comedy does not go unnoticed :)
Strangely enough there isn't many shut off valves throughout my house. I had to place one near the leaky pipes to stop the flow of water. Placing more valves in places they should already be is on my to do list.
