Have you maximised your Witness Votes?

It's so complicated
Vote for SlothBuzz as a Witness

Hive is MASSIVE! There's so much to learn and explore, especially for those with a technological mindset. However, for the most part, people look for ease of access. Hive has some great features to help those users with less knowledge of the chain workings.

Tools like Hive Keychain, Peakd and Ecency allow you to set them as "proxy" voters for witnesses. This means they will control your votes, (based on your HP) and vote for the Witnesses they back. Of course, this will include their own Witnesses and some other "key" witnesses on Hive based on their opinion.

However, not everyone knows you can vote for your own witnesses! So, where can you find these witnesses and why should you control your own votes?

Witnesses play a crucial part in securing and maintaining the Hive chain, without witnesses there would be no chain, and no blocks would be minted or verified. These witness nodes also open the ability for APIs, which allow apps to "Call" the hive blockchain for data. All critical components to maintaining the efficiency of a decentralised network.

You can view the witnesses in a number of different places, from the "governance tab" on Hive Keychain, to the witness pages on peaked and Ecency. For the more technical-minded, Hiveblocks has a nice overview of the witnesses and arcange shows a cool chart of what witness is currently mining a block and the other backups. Not only this, there's a cool bubble map from "Hivetrending" that shows what is being minted during every block!

Now you've found the witnesses, you can vote for up to 30! Each one will receive "FULL" backing from your stake, based on HP. Your votes won't affect your HP so you don't need to worry about losing anything. In fact, some of the witnesses have extra benefits to sweeten you up, from some Hive upon backing them to weekly reward token payouts!

Personally, I don't think you should base your vote on those "extra rewards" instead you should look at what the Witness brings to Hive, are they building on Hive, supporting the network and growth in other ways?

Part of becoming a witness you must make a post with your intentions for Hive, and reasons why you should vote for the witness. You can check these on the above-mentioned witness pages. I recommend looking through some to get an idea of what the witness provides for you and Hive as a whole. Make sure your votes haven't ended up on some inactive nodes!

Example inactive node in top 40 (20.6 Million votes) no block mined in 2months!

Talking of inactive nodes, there are several even within the top 100 that are inactive, these nodes are no longer supporting the chain, nor producing blocks. I'd recommend checking your votes every few weeks to ensure you're still backing the "best" witnesses for Hive. You can change them at any time without cost or fee so feel free to manage your votes as often as you like!

As you can see it also splits nodes into "total" and "active" nodes, make sure you're voting for active nodes. The second number in their rank is their "active" position.

My final point would be to check some of the "lower" witnesses, those outside the top 100, the current setup of Hive gives a block to the Top 20 nodes plus 1 backup (mainly from the top 100) each cycle. This keeps things "fair" whilst the top 20 "Key" producers do most of the leg work, and the backup witnesses get their share to contribute to the chain on a semi-regular basis.

And the final point, and the main reason for this post, feel free to send a vote to the SlothBuzz Witness node.

Here's the Slothbuzz Witness Ann post and a recap of slothbuzz's journey into Hive

This "new" node will help SlothBuzz become a more integral part of Hive, and allow us to push more projects through our own API, increasing the uptime and overall quality of SlothBuzz projects.

At the time of writing, Slothbuzz Node is ranked 168th out of total nodes, 128th active node

If you've found this information helpful feel free to drop a comment and let us know, what witnesses are you voting for and why?
