Voting, auto voting, forgetting to vote or REALLY read and vote?

avatar

This thought occurred to me last night, typical sloth thoughts, always picking holes in everything.

image.png

The question/thought was, how do I use my Hive votes for maximum effectiveness?

At first, I told myself, you READ, then vote! You make sure the quality is there to ensure you're giving the "best" reflection of content on Hive.

But, let's really think about it, how many votes we send are actually based on this concept, the starting concept of Hive? Rewarding quality content creators...

image.png

I know from using Hive.vote, it's a lot easier to follow a vote trail, let them do the voting. Or you can join someone's "fanbase", another auto-vote feature.

That's the only auto-voting I do though, everything else is 100% based purely on the quality of the article. Have they put thought, effort and creativity into it or is it merely a few words on a page with not much backbone?

I mean, I guess, occasionally, sometimes, I might just like content because I've been tagged in it, or it's from one of the content creators I know "typically" have decent content, but, this doesn't take away from the fact I only vote for good content....most of the time, other than hive vote auto voting and the occasional vote to a friend.

Well, there's also the issue of the rewards, how to maximise my returns from curation? Sometimes the best content is overlooked by the many, therefore the rewards are going to be minimal, so how to maximise those? I guess we have to vote for content with high upvotes already, that's the point of Hive right? Autovote, the Biggest accounts, EARN loads!!!!

image.png

Or, the main Key to Hive...which everyone calls "engagement" is getting your name into the minds of other Hivians so when they see your content one of the above rules applies, and you either get the upvote based on your GREAt content! Or more likely, because they see your name and give you the updoot or are already following a voting trail/fan base to auto-vote you.

I guess, mostly what I'm saying it, new Hivians, don't give up, your content will shine through, eventually. You just need to make your mark on those Hivians with a decent HP to give you the required votes to get started! Keep posting Hivians! I've got voting power to burn!

image.png

Well, that's that off my mind, no idea if it makes sense, but, who votes for content, who auto votes and who just chases those big posts for max returns? (And does that actually work?)

Voting "big posts" for max returns makes no sense, you won´t get more rewards than after voting for a underrated post. I vote manually mostly, with a few auto votes.
Unlike the last pic suggests, in the time window within 24h after the post comes out, there is no difference between voting for rewards and voting for good content.

I must admit, I've never "really" looked into it, this was just some sloth thoughts of the night!

Learned something new today, I thought rewards would be higher from a higher-voted post, I guess it makes more sense that they're the same regardless, based on your own voting power. Thanks for reading and engaging (or at least looking at the memes lolz)

Have a look at https://hivestats.io/ and look up your account.

Scroll down and you get to the voting efficiency section.

There is a correlation between the time you vote and your payout as well as the weight of the votes before/after you and your payout.

If you vote within the first few minutes after a post is published you get less curation rewards.
This is to deterr the autovoters a little bit, give people time to consume and read your posting. Then vote based on the content.

If you discover a gem and vote before the majority comes in you are rewarded for genuinly liking it even though it is not "pushed" by a few hundred votes.

If you "hop on" to a post that already has hundreds of (heavy?) votes you don't get that much reward because you most likely "just followed the masses".

I don't autovote.

I give my vote depending on the content, the effort and the quality.

How is the formatting and the structure? Easy to read/follow or thoughtles rambling? Sectioning into paragraphs, dividing headlines?

Spelling and grammar have a little influence as well sometimes, if the mistakes are overwhelming.

Do the pictures/graphics go along with the text? Are they random stock pics or the author's own design? Maybe a combination, like designing their own cover with free stock graphics from canva?

Is the material sourced/cited?

And last but not least (depends on the topic): Did it make me smile? Can be humor, can be an epiphany, can be many reasons. Smiling doesn't have to mean it's funny. Just that I feel reading it was time well spent.

In my oppinion that is the original thought Hive was built on and I try keeping that alive.

I try to keep my mana between 70 and 90 percent. The moment it reaches 100 I waste recharge time and the moment I get below 70 I lose too much value.

Great, now this has turned into a post on its own.

Bah, the sloth in me says: "already written, don't want to put time into a header image and format on a comment is a lwoer standard than on a post. Leave it be! Also: Don't hijack his thread, the meme for that is already burned."

So bye bye for now, see you later...

Ah, just caught this reply! Thanks for the explanation, it could indeed have been a post on it's own, one to write in future, they always get a good response. I'll need to add some sloth time to my voting then, try get the perfect balance.

I tried out an autovote frontend once and I remember it had a delay setting.
At least for the autovotes on accounts you follow that might be worth investigating, voting 10 minutes after the post is published.
As for following a trail, I guess there it is best to be as close as possible, the 10 minute window should already be long gone when those votes arrive.

I try and do all my votes manually I think i'm invested on one curation trail and that's from the lovely pizza lot

Otherwise i keep it spare with my mini hive power for manual voting :)

I'm mostly manual also, but there's a few days I forget (can't be arsed) to curate content, think I'll add a couple of trails for instances when I have too high voting power, just to keep me ticking over!

Might need to test out the Leo finance "hive engine" booster thing also, adds a little extra to your votes on side tokens so you actually use more of your voting power there.
