Guns N' Roses: The Story Behind Their Hits and the Chaos That Made Them Legendary
Good afternoon, gentlemen, today I am going to talk to you about one of the most controversial bands in rock and for that I have to go back in time to the year 1985 and it was the union of two bands L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose, but shortly after they changed it to "Guns N' Roses."
So let's start.
First Changes and Classic Formation
It all started in the 80's in Los Angeles. In those days, having a rock band was a great advantage because you could meet a lot of women, so you could rehearse with old instruments in strippers' houses with naked women. By that time, the band was already complete: Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (lead guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Steven Adler (drums). The band began playing in iconic clubs on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, such as the Whisky a Go Go and the Roxy. At that time, Guns N' Roses quickly gained fame for their explosive live performances, Axl Rose's fierce personality and the raw and dirty style of their music. This mix of rock, punk and blues is when on June 6th, Geffen Records. It was when Geffen, after signing a contract, found them a rental house for the band to continue writing all their material. It would have been great, but it wasn't like that, since we're talking about Guns and Roses, so the band destroyed the house, charging them $22,000 to repair it.
Appetite for Destruction (1987)
- With this album the band became known for their music and their way of behaving on stage. This album was incredible as it sold more than 30 million copies and brought the group to stardom and the songs that achieved this were "Welcome to the Jungle", "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Paradise City".
G N' R Lies (1988)
- This album was not as successful as the previous one, but it also had very good songs: "Patience" and "Used to Love Her".
Use Your Illusion I (1991)
- Another great success of the band and represents an evolution in the band's sound with more elaborate and experimental songs and we notice this in their songs "November Rain", "Don't Cry" and this great song that I love "Live and Let Die": which is a cover that Paul McCartney and Wings did.
Use Your Illusion II (1991)
- The second album, Use Your Illusion, was as successful as the first, and some of its songs are considered among the band's best, including "Civil War," "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," and "You Could Be Mine."
The Spaghetti Incident? (1993)
- This album is a collection of covers of punk and rock songs from other bands. Although it wasn't that successful, it has some standout tracks, such as "Since I Don't Have You" and "Ain't It Fun": Originally by the punk band Dead Boys, Guns N' Roses put their own spin on it and achieved relative success with it.
Chinese Democracy (2008)
Since their partial reunion in 2016, the band has released a few new songs, such as "Absurd" and "Hard Skool," which have been well-received by fans. Although they have not released a new full album, these songs show that the band continues to create music and evolve their style.
Each Guns N' Roses album has left an important mark and has contributed to their legendary status in rock history. Their songs combine power, sensitivity and a rebellious style that continues to captivate new generations.
