Me and my Black Heart
Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers.
Saturday on Hive of course means it's time to write about the good old amber nectar or Beer, except today it isn't amber it is in fact black!
An apt pint and I shall tell you for why
Black Heart
Earlier in the day Mrs T and I were yapping away about something, when she jokingly said I had a black soul, a back heart!
Couple that with Rangers losing this afternoon and there could only be one outcome.
To the fridge I went and poured ....
I have written about Black Heart before and how it tells you to pour it so you have a perfect pint ...
I won't bore you with the details this time except to link it here if you want to read ... BrewDog Scottish Black Heart Beer
But as you can tell from the title of that post Black Heart is from the Scottish brewer BrewDog.
The pouring of the pint was coming along fine...
I just love the creamy foam of a dark beer!
The bubbles have settled a bit and I need to start dinner!
It really is a cracking pint. And ever since I had a coupleofmonths ago I havekept somecans in the fridge for a rainy day so to speak.
This was one of those days!
There is no food shot today @asiaymalay because I drink two cans before I finished cooking. It was a tasty fish and chips dish though.
That was me playing around with google photos and blurring things ...
Food shot
Seeing it is a thick pint, here we go
Cheers to a fantastic community in Hive and a wonderful initiative!
Cheers 🍻
My verdict - Tasty and reliable!
I knew what I was getting and it did not let me down.
Black Heart is a pint that is so fluffing smooth with a creamy texture that trickles down your throat without even trying. You can taste the subtle hints of coffee and rich cocoa too. It is so drinkable and most definitely not bitter!
The deets
Black Heart is brewed by BrewDog who started in Fraserburgh, Scotland in 2007 with James Watt and Martin Dickie Dickie brewing small batches and selling them at local markets. They then moved to Ellon in 2012 and things really took off!
BrewDog claims to be the "world's first carbon negative brewery," stating they remove more CO2 from the air than they emit.
Right enough about them, what does my trusty Gemini AI say about the beer itself!
Note these are summarised from my Gemini AI account.
Characteristics:
BrewDog Black Heart is a 4.1% ABV modern stout crafted to be smooth, creamy, and distinctly dark. Key characteristics include:
- Flavour Profile: It offers subtle notes of roasted coffee and cocoa, often with a hint of caramel. Some reviews also mention a touch of licorice or a smoky twang.
- Mouthfeel: It's described as velvet smooth and creamy, often attributed to the use of nitrogen in the canning process, giving it a "draught-like" experience.
-Appearance: It pours a jet black color with a tan, frothy head that has good retention and lacing.
-Ingredients: It is brewed with water, malted barley, yeast, and hops, with nitrogen added for the smooth texture. Some sources mention the use of extra dark crystal malts to achieve its roasted flavors.
And I fluffing love Black Heart!

Haha ya!
I have never tasted a brewdog beer I didn’t enjoy, love their origin story and only regret we don’t get enough of it on this side of the pond.
Like a stout, those dark and malty beers seem to go better on nitro instead of co2. Something about the smoothness, how well your can aerate them when pouring, and how the malt is softened up when on a cushion of nitro.
I will take a glass of our homemade Irish nitro stout in solidarity!
They just get so smooth!
Now that is a banger of a homemade Irish nitro stout Zeke! It has my mouth watering.
I am guessing that isn't the first batch you have made...
Oh no we have made dozens of batches and the Irish Stout is one we always have on tap.
Well it's a great one to hap on tap.
Of all the beers you've posted around here this is one I want to try the most!!!! It looks good: it looks super delicious and creamy. I'm going to follow your example and every time they say I have a black soul, I'll look for a good beer and drink it. A dark and frothy hug.
It really is super delicious and creamy!
Hehe that is perfect Nancy, and here is a dark soul hug to you :)
That looks pretty heavy. I dig it though. I have been a fan of Brew Dog for a while, but I have only ever had a few of their offerings. I need to try and get back there one day.
I guess it depends if you like Stouts or Guiness. Actually as Zeke was saying the nitrogen that is added makes I think smoother and lighter, it is not really heavy. I think you might enjoy it though.
Oh, it's a nitro? That's cool. I do like stouts and porters as well as browns. We have a couple vanilla and coffee infused porters over this way that are really really good.
Yeah a nitro so that defo helps with the smoothness. Those vanilla and coffee infused porters sound really interesting!
They are so good!
Is it better or worse than Guiness - clearly that's what it's going for.
For me I will say better, but I know the devout Irish Guinness drinkers won't agree.
!BEER 🍻
It really looks like coke. I imagined it as coke😛. Pouring it also have to follow the technique.😬😂
Hehe I knew you would say it looks like coke! Every time I have one now, I think of you and coke 🤣
You reminded me of the days when they sold dark beer here. When I was a kid, you could get it at any store. I don't know if they still sell it now; I never see it. The closest thing is a sweet drink we call Malta, which is alcohol-free. Have a nice afternoon, my dear @tengolotodo.
Malta that is interesting as in Nigeria they do sell a Malt drink that is also alcohol free.
Yes I prefer a dark beer, maybe because of the cold weather here!
This is my first time hearing of a beer called black heart. I hope it doesn't blacken the heart 😂😂
