πŸŽ„ Silver Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas- Day 10πŸŽ„

I hope you all had a great weekend! I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I checked the cryptocurrency prices and saw Hive at $0.42. It sure had a nice pump overnight and I'm hoping we can keep the momentum alive. Seeing Hive over forty cents again is a great feeling isn't it?

Today I'm going to continue on with the Silver Gold Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge. It's to share twelve items you might like to receive for Christmas from your secret Santa, or even under the tree. Thanks to @silverd510 for getting the challenge started. Today I'm up to day ten on my list, so I'm a little behind everyone else I believe. So far I've been putting items on the list that are relatively affordable, except for the 300 gram Death Star coin, but today I'm going bigger!

I have always loved collecting Morgan Silver dollars, I just love the details on the coin itself. The Peace Dollar is prettier, but I still have a soft spot for Morgan. Plus these coins were in use during the days of the wild west and you never know who may have carried that coin around in their pocket or purse! I am most fond of the ones that were produced in Carson City, Nevada; because as a general rule fewer were produced and some of the strikes came out exceptionally beautiful. This is one of those that is just amazing:

From Apmex.com

This is an 1883 Morgan that has been graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) to be a MS66 DMPL. For those who aren't familiar with coins that means mint state 66 out of a possible 70, which would be a perfect coin. It also is a deep mirror proof like (DMPL) coin making it even less common. What that means is the field (or background in layman's terms) is shiny and reflective like a mirror. And you know it's made in Carson City by the "CC" mint mark on the back just above the D and O in dollar. Once graded by PCGS it's sealed in a protective plastic case you can see above.

PCGS tracks the coin values of their graded coins when sold in auctions so you can have an idea what any particular coin should be worth. This one runs in the range of $3,400 to $6,150, you can see where I circled the going price range on the chart below. The listed price on APMEX.com is $3,609. So it would be a somewhat expensive but worth it in my opinion!

Carson City Mint

The Morgan silver dollar was designed by George T. Morgan in 1878 and was minted from 1878 until 1904, with a short run again in 1921. Production took place in five mints across the country: Philadelphia (no mint mark, New Orleans (O), Denver (D), San Francisco (S), and Carson City (CC). The Carson City, Nevada Mint started production in 1870 due to the discovery of the Comstock Lode of silver just outside of Virginia City, Nevada. The mint was relatively close to the mines and transporting silver was much easier in coin form. It principally produced silver coins although some gold were struck as well. The mint generally made fewer coins than the other mints making the coins scarcer and more expensive today as a result. The Mint was permanently closed in 1893 as silver production was dwindling at the Comstock Lode.

That will wrap up my wish list for day ten. I would love to have that coin! I hope you enjoyed seeing this beautiful coin and learning a little bit of the history of the Carson City Mint. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below. I would like to thank everyone for all of your support, it is greatly appreciated! Have a great week everyone!

Beautiful coin! I have a few of these and love their old fashion look!

I really even like the worn ones because they've been used by so many people. So much history if they could only talk! Back then they wanted the coins to be a work of art, and it shows. I wish today's coins were a lot prettier and less old dead dudes on there!

Certainly a picturesque setting for a mint. I've only ever been to a couple of places in Nevada besides Las Vegas.

Most of the state is empty space that isn't all that worth visiting! But Carson City is a nice place and even Reno isn't too bad!

My wife's aunt used to live in Reno, but I have never been there.

It's fun for a weekend trip, but I would choose Vegas over Reno any day though! Unless you are planning on heading over to Lake Tahoe for some skiing in winter. My knees don't like skiing anymore, it's a young man's sport!

I've never been skiing so I wouldn't know too much about that. I think I would probably break something for sure! Even when I was younger! Having been to Vegas three times now, I wouldn't mind seeing Reno. I don't plan on going back to Vegas unless I am a lot richer than I am now.

I hear you on that one! Vegas has gotten expensive! When I went in the 90's it wasn't too bad. Then in the 2000's it was getting more expensive, and in the 2010's it got even more expensive. Now you have to search around for a deal or you could easily blow more than two thousand dollars for a few day in Vegas.

Yeah, for sure. I don't even know if I would gamble that much. I just want to eat some of the amazing food, but you have to have fat pockets for that.

That you do! The all you can eat buffets don't have the really good food for sure! lol

I remember the first time we went to Vegas we did the 24 hour buffet at the MGM. It was something like $50 or $60 a piece, but we could eat there anytime we wanted in a 24 hour period. I'm not much of a buffet guy in general anymore.

So much history behind the West, and just reading up about the Carson City mint is very interesting!!
I was lucky enough to pick up several CC Morgan's from the GSA sales years ago!πŸ˜€

That was lucky! They are getting more and more expensive, so a great investment. This one is out of my price range right now though!

I was lucky enough to have a buddie back then who’s father was into Coin collecting.
Crazy that the government graded most of these Carson Cities as AU just because of bag marks…

I think I've lost count years ago... Most are stored away out of state these days. Once you get hooked it's a hard habit to break, probably worse that heroin!

Important history of one of the smaller mints of the US. I have only one coin from the Carson City mint, a 1874 CC American Trade Dollar from the ship wreck of the SS Japan steamship that was found off the Chinese coast off Guandong Province. A pretty cool piece of history.

It was a beautiful feeling to see Hive last 40 cents. By this time in the last cycle, it was exactly happening the same way, only that it was slower. Good old BTC have happened and dumped us down, well I think this price provides a good buying opportunity

BTC dumped and for quite awhile Hive was staying steady. Then a whale must have dumped a lot of Hive collapsing the price... I hope it doesn't follow this down trend it's on right now!

I don't really think a whale dump, it would take a million of hive dumped to affect it they way. I think Hive was just slow to react to the BTC dump.
