πŸŽ„ Silver Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas- Day 2!πŸŽ„

Today I will be continuing on with the Silver Gold Stackers community's Twelve Days of Christmas challenge started by @silverd510 . Anyone can participate and share twelve items they would like to receive from their secret Santa (or under the Christmas tree.) I shared my first day wish a couple days ago so it's time to move onto day two. I have always been a fan of Mexican silver and gold coins, and so that's where I'm going today.

Ever since 1982 the Mexican Mint has been producing silver bullion rounds know as the Libertad (Liberty.) They technically aren't coins because they don't state a monetary value on the silver itself, only it's amount and purity. Mexican silver is among my favorite to collect because they have produced so many beautiful designs over the years, and few years ago it used to be relatively inexpensive compared to other silver products. Those days are long gone now as many collectors have been investing in Mexican precious metals.

This year for day two I'm going to go with the Mexican silver Libertad proof from 2023. In a proof or proof like minting you will see the background is like a mirror enhancing the beauty of the minted design. In the picture below you can see how the sky on the front and background on the back are very mirror like, thus a proof product! These tend to be more expensive as they take more work to produce. There is also a reverse proof where the design is extremely polished and the background more dull which carry an even larger premium or price. I'll include an example after the coin I want this year.

Have a look at the images I found on eBay, this is really pretty!

An example of a reverse proof:

Isn't that beautiful? It's a true work of art. It used to be that all coins produced were not only for commerce but also a work of art and beauty that a nation could share with pride. Those days are long gone, here in the US our coinage is just, in terms of the old Bill and Ted's movies, old dead dudes. Maybe some day the beauty of Liberty will return to our coins, but I'm not holding my breath.

The last president here in the US that wanted our coins to be true works of art was Teddy Roosevelt. The Saint-Gaudens gold twenty dollar coin was the result of his efforts. He was a guy who said what he believed, and was a serious badass as well. Not only did he take San Juan Hill, Cuba in the Spanish American War but got shot in the chest on a campaign stop and still gave a campaign speech before going to the hospital. They don't make politicians like that anymore... But the Saint-Gaudens design is still used today in our gold bullion coins, but not our currency:

From eBay.com

Wow! Now that is what coins should look like....

Boy did I get off track there... Back to the Christmas wish list....

I wouldn't mind a Saint-Gaudens 1907 high relief gold piece for Christmas either, but I'd be happy with a nice Mexican proof Libertad. It's a much more realistic gift, they run around $60 US vs $20,000 plus for the former! The one I just shared is priced over $100,000!

That will just about do it for my post today. I hope you enjoyed the seeing some of the really nice Libertad's they produce in Mexico, they really are beautiful. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave them below. I want to thank everyone for their support, it really is truly appreciated! Have a great day everyone!

That's pretty cool. I'd like to maybe start picking up some more stuff from outside the US. I mean I have the Aztec calendar pieces, but I think those are still pretty US in origin. I could be wrong.

They are US made, I like the Libertads a lot. Great design, and they used to be less expensive too, not anymore though!

Ah yeah, that's the term I keep seeing. Figures everything is getting more expensive!

It is a very beautiful coin, but I like more the side of the coin where all those different birds are, I assume they are eagles some but others are not, or I think they are not.

Thanks for coming back with a great coin from

That is a great coin, @thebighigg! I do like the reverse proof! I don't have a reverse-proof Libertad coin yet.

I don't either, they are expensive on eBay. I'll have to look around for a dealer who has better prices on them, it would be fun to start a collection!

I love them too! When I lived in Arizona along the border I used to go over to Mexico and buy coins there, but that was before the cartels took over. You can't safely go there anymore....

Damn, that was it, twelve days of Christmas lol. I just wrote weeks before Christmas because I couldn't remember how many days of Christmas it was and also not who started it, lol.

I just wrote a second post myself, better be in time because I really don't know if I can write them in a few weeks..

This one is really pretty! I have a 1/2 oz Mexican libertad and I think @bulliontools mentioned to me that it was a proof one as well. I should add that to the info because I didn't know the difference (it was my first libertad lol)

Proofs just have the mirror like background, nice and reflective! The first Libertad is the one that usually sucks you down the rabbit hole, so watch out! lol The twelve days is always fun to pick out some cool stuff like you did, I would love expensive stuff but my budget is in the real world... No $100,000 gold coins in my foreseeable future!
