My Nineties Friday Week 11, Quick Take anyone?
siliconfeatures.com
Happy Friday everyone! Since it Friday it's time for my next edition of Nineties Friday. #ninetiesfriday is an event where you can share anything you like from the decade of the 1990's, your imagination in the limit. Thanks to @geneeverett for starting the event, one winner will be chosen each week and will receive 6 HSBI, three from me and three from Gene. As you can see I'm diving in with another gadget from the 90's.
The Apple QuickTake was one the very first consumer focused digital cameras. It was released in 1994 and was a big innovation by the 90's standards. Resolution on these cameras was only 640x480 pixels, so nothing compared to today but not bad for the early nineties. The model 200 had 2 MG of memory on a flash card. Very much a dinosaur now but this was a big push towards digital cameras and the end of film that had been used for so many decades prior. If just goes to show you how Apple was a company of great innovation even back then!
I never owned a digital camera until the following decade because film at the the time was better resolution, but I'm sure a few of you probably had one...
Tamagotchi
bustle.com
Tamagotchi pets showed up in 1996 as the first digital pet. It became an instant hit. It featured a pet that had to be fed and taken care of or the pet would die. I personally never owned one of these but I did see many kids (and adults) playing with them. A very simple technology that made the company a fortune. It was much better than the pet rock that came about in the 1970's!
Seinfeld
ign.com
Seinfeld was one of the greatest sitcoms ever produced, although by today's standards of too much political correctness many of the episodes never could have been made. It's a fun show to watch even today on streaming, and Netflix has the whole series currently. Today I thought I might share episodes that focus more on George (Jason Alexander.) The first two are just that, but the third started as George by went in another direction as you'll see!
One of the great Seinfeld episodes is "The Jimmy", where the character Jimmy refers to himself in the third person and George picks up the habit as well subconsciously.
For those who have watched Seinfeld you all know George is kind of a loser... In this episode he decides to do the exact opposite of his natural instincts because they've given him nothing but failure. This comes from "The Opposite":
I was going to focus only on George, but then I watched this episode the other day on Netflix. Many people know Bryan Cranston best from "Breaking Bad", but before that he was a regular in comedies like "Malcolm In The Middle" and "Seinfeld". In this one the ongoing joke is the use of "yada, yada" to jump over the boring parts of a story. This episode you get to see Bryan Cranston and Robert Wagner guest starring as dentists:
Now let's move onto a few songs that were big in the decade of the 90's.
Lenny Kravitz
fangirlish.com
Lenny Kravitz came from a show business family and decided young to become a musician. He started recording albums in 1985 but never hit mainstream until 1993 when he released "Are You Gonna Go My Way". While I've never been a huge Kravitz fan, this song seriously rocks, so much so that even Metallica made a cover of it!
The Offspring
substreammagazine.com
The Offspring have long been one of my favorite bands. They originated in Garden Grove, California in 1984 as a punk band but never hit the mainstream until 1994 with their album "Smash". In 1998 they release the album "Americana" which included this great track, "The Kids Aren't Alright":
Since I spent the majority of the 90's in countries that only spoke Spanish I like to add in one or two songs that were popular in the same epoch. Today I'm going with:
Juan Luis Guerra
dominican.news
Juan Luis Guerra is a Dominican artist that rose to fame in the mid 1980's with his group Juan Luis Guerra y 440. He has been one the best selling Latin American artists for decades with his use of blending different musical styles and sounds, with merengue being the principle one. In 1990 they released the album "Bachata Rosa" which is when I first heard him with the hit song "Burbujas De Amor" (Love Bubbles):
That will just about wrap up this edition of #ninetiesfriday. Thank you for stopping by and for all of your support, it is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below. Have a great weekend everyone!

I did not know Apple had digital cameras in their portfolio at all!
Same for me. I owned some oldschool soviet-era film camera 'Zenith" and the last films I shot were apparently in 2003-2004. I remember first acquaintance with the digital camera in 2004 - I used Konica-Minolta dimage (which I lended from my employer for free, hehe). It was not until 2006 that I obtained my own Canon DSLR, which had pretty decent options for the time. Ofc could not be compared to the current level of gadgets - even smartphones do a better job now.
As for this challenge - am I supposed to create a separate blog, or feeding smth to comment section will work too?
my
Just create your own post on the nineties. It doesn't have to be one Friday, anytime in the the next week works. Just us #ninetiesfriday in your tags.
Is Zenith even still around? It's been years since I've seen a Zenith product. I started using my iPhone as my main camera once they came out because by then I had a son and taking pictures with a camera just took too long!
The factory that produced it in soviet epoch, is still up and running.
https://www.zenit.photo
If you are curious, you may give a brief look at their i-shop
Quality lens with Sony / Canon / Nikon mount with a cheaper price than original brand lens, may be of intrest. But speaking of the cameras 'Zenith' itself... no no, lets not dig deeper into this field, lol 😂 guess you understand me right, hehehe.
That is interesting, they must produce quality items if they're still in business!
Not really a challenge. Just a topic we like posting about every Friday for us who remember the nineties. Most common topics within the topic are music & movies/TV Shows. But can be anything going someone remembers about the nineties. My advice is focusing on one topic from the nineties and making post detailed about said topic.
Yeah! I am in the same boat with you guys 😉
Head it to any community? or Freecompliments?..
Use the tag #NinetiesFriday as one of the first 3 tags is only rule. U can put it in any extra community that matches topic.
Any community works, I like freecompliments though!
I never heard about the Apple Quicktake but I had a tamagotchi! lol

I don't know, I wasn't in the US when it came out, I was in South America at the time. It sure spelled doom for the film industry though!

Who would have thought back then that the Apple QuickTake was the beginning of the end for film!🙄
I hung onto my 35 mm that was producing better quality photos…
Nowadays, my iPhone SE takes photos so much nicer than my old single lens reflex..
Times change quickly!😇
Resolution is just far better on phones now than film ever was... It's almost like looking back at the dark ages compared to today!
That it is my friend…….😇
I still have my two single lens reflex cameras packed away !☺️
Just like landlines time moves forward!
Lenny rocks pretty good. His 90’s stuff is really very good.
He had some great songs back in the 90's! But after that like so many artists just became less popular...
Lenny Kravitz “5” is maybe his best. Check it out,,
I'll go check it out, don't know if I've heard it before!
I've heard a lot the songs, I agree great ones. I'll have to take some time to listen to the whole thing here this weekend!
"Fly away" is really good.....his album "baptism" is pretty awesome too..
That is a good a song!

Lenny, I loved Lenny he is still on my 90s todo list.
And what was it about Seinfeld? I always preferred them way above Friends but the worst you did to my mind is make it struggle to remember some great 90s Latin tunes anyway great post!
I always like Seinfeld over Friends as well. Friends is funny, but the characters in Seinfeld were just so much funnier!
I have a huge list one the 90's Latin songs to add in still. Lots of great songs from the 90's
#seinfeld_without_context
Seinfeld without context would be confusing!

Imma comment one of these every Friday for ya!
No quickshots here, but we had a Sony Mavica back in the day. Then ones that used the 3.5" disks that you slid into the side of it.
It's like living in the Flintstones compared to today isn't it?
!LOL
For sure!
