Nineties Friday Starting Off With Aladdin!

numista.com

Friday is here again, another long work week is coming to an end. I hope you've all had a good week and managed to get a lot done. I've managed to get through a few projects that I've been putting off so I consider it a good week. Like most of my Friday posts I'm going to be putting together another Nineties Friday. It's an event created by @geneeverett where you can share just about anything from the decade of the 1990's. Your imagination is the the limit. Each week on person is randomly selected as the winner and will receive 6 HSBI units, three from Gene and three from me.

Congratulations to @summertooth for wining last weeks contest. He put together a post about the nineties with a serious twist. It was all about the year 1895, which technically made it fit into #ninetiesfriday ! If you have a chance you can go check it out, it was interesting to say the least! Plus this week we gave out some bonus HSBI to everyone who participated, congratulations to @actioncats and @whywhy they each were awarded 4 HSBI units!

Moving into my post of for Nineties Friday, I'm a member of the Silver Gold Stackers and so I'll often throw in some silver related to a 90's theme. Much of it is stuff I wish I owned, but is often outside my current budget, but they are always awesome. So my header today is no different, a coin in the shape of a stamp dedicated to the celebration of 100 years of Disney. It was produced by my favorite island nation of Niue, and features Aladdin. Have a look they are really nice:

Unfortunately they are sold out most everyplace and the going rate is close to $200 US today. It's a very cool one ounce coin, and launces me into my the rest of my post for the day. I'm not talking about the Aladdin live action with Will Smith that was absolute garbage in my opinion, but the classic 1992 film featuring the one and only Robin Williams as the genie. Back before Disney decided to destroy every classic they ever made....

hollywoodreporter.com

It really is impossible to replace someone like Robin Williams, and it was a shame that Disney even tried. This movie is hilarious, and a true Disney classic movie. If by some chance you've never seen it I highly recommend it, it's great for all ages. Here is the original trailer from 1992.

Men In Black

cinematographe.it

Now we get to talk about something with Will Smith that what very well done. Along with acting legend Tommy Lee Jones they produced one of the most entertaining movies from the 90's. The Men in Black are a secret organization controlling alien activity on the planet earth. It's a fun non-stop adventure that is fun for just about everyone. It you haven't seen it go find it on streaming, it's a lot of fun!

Now for some music from the 1990's

Soundgarden

spin.com

Soundgarden formed in 1984 in Seattle, Washington and were fronted by the late Chris Cornell. They were one of the earliest grunge bands signed to a record deal and helped popularize the grunge movement. They produced some good music early on but didn't gain a big following until their album "Badmotorfinger" in 1991. It put them into the mainstream grunge music scene along with Nirvana. This song is off that same album, "Rusty Cage":

Metallica

de.wallpapers.com

Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 Metallica has become one of the most influential bands in heavy metal over their very long career. The album Metallica (often called the black album) was released in 1991, it had taken the better part of a year to produce and went way over budget costing well over a million dollars. But it was will worth it because the whole album was filled with amazing new sounding material. It was a huge success and sold in excess of 30 million albums and produced multiple hit songs. It also became a huge influence on younger bands that followed them. This is a another great song from the album that didn't top the charts, but is a very cool song, "Don't Tread On Me".

Barenaked Ladies

classicrockreview.com

This Canadian group was formed in Toronto in 1988 by Ed Robertson and Steven Page. They quickly became known for their ability to create funny songs on the fly in concert, often sung only the one time and were gone. They secured a record deal in 1992 releasing their first album "Gordon" which picked up some following in Canada and the US. It took them until 1998 with the release of the album "Stunt" to gain mainstream success in the US and around the world. One of my favorite songs by the band was "If I Had A Million Dollars" that game off the album "Gordon".

And because I spent most of the 1990's living in countries that really only spoke Spanish I like to throw in a couple songs in Spanish from the decade.

Chayanne

chayanne-manuelferreiras.blogspot.com

Chayanne is a Puerto Rican singer who first came to fame as a member of the band "Los Chicos" who were a rival of the popular band "Menudo" where Ricky Martin got his start. In the late 80's Chayanne started his solo career that really took off in the early 90's. In 1996 he released his album "Volver A Nacer" (Reborn) that launched his career to new heights including the English speaking market. The lead track of the album was "Volver A Nacer":

I'll also do a shoutout to my friend @jesuslnrs because he is a Chayanne fan as well.

Lucero

guioteca.com

Lucero is a Mexican singer that has been in the business since childhood both acting and singing. She is well know for her romance ballads and was a big influence on Latin music throughout the early 90's. Her album "Sólo Pienso en Ti" (I only think about you) was a huge success in the Latin American music market. Published in 1991 it had several chart topping hits off the album and I remember hearing her songs all the time on the radio when I was living in Chile. This song was one of them, it's called: "Electricidad" (Electricity):

That will finish off my post for this Friday. If you don't already participate in Nineties Friday why don't you try it out? Just publish it in the Nineties Friday community and it's not a bad idea to tag @geneeverett and myself so we don't miss your post. I hope you enjoyed some of the stuff I shared today, it was fun putting it together. Thank you for all of your support, it truly is greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!

Your welcome amigo! The nineties had a lot of great music in the Latin American world, Spain produced some great bands as well. But Lucero is about as early nineties as you can go along with Chayanne, Myriam Hernandez, Daniela Romo, and Ana Gabriel.

You're welcome for the HSBI, I love to share those because they help out everyone here on Hive!

Aladdin was probably my favorite Disney movie back in the day. I had the soundtrack on CD and I knew pretty much every word to every song. I've got some good memories of those times! That is a pretty sweet silver piece!

It was awesome wasn't it? Robin Williams just made that movie a classic! That little one ounce silver piece will be worth a lot more in coming years if Disney doesn't manage to completely destroy itself....

MIB a classic I did not realize that started in the 90's "Slick", haha. I would have guessed in the 2000s sometime. Some good bands you listed heard them all not too familiar with the last two though.

Unless you lived in South America or Puerto Rico you likely wouldn't be on those! I spent a lot of years in both so I enjoy them!

MIB was the 90's believe it or not, time flies...

The nice thing is I was able to do it while I was young enough to really enjoy it. Travelling isn't as much fun now as it used to be I find...

My week have been hectic, but I'm glad it's finally coming to an end, I will have enough time for rest.

Seeing that Aladdin trailer brought back nostalgia. I saw that while I was very young, in fact it used to be my favorite. Hehe thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I'm glad your hectic week is finally over and you can get some rest. I was in my early twenties when Aladdin came out and was living in South America at the time. But it was a great show. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. I don't think I have ever read the book though!

I was living in South America when it came out, that was quite a few years ago... It was really sad when he died, but Lewy Body Dementia is a horrible disease. It can cause extreme depression that became too much for him to bear... Poor guy...
