Nineties Friday with Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Happy Friday everyone! That means it's once again a Nineties Friday! It's a weekly event where you can share anything about the the decade, your imagination is the limit. One person a week is chosen the winner and receives 6 HSBI units, three from me and three for @geneeverett . You just need to post it under the #ninetiesfriday community. It's not a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett just to be safe!

Last week I started of with some movies from the 90's with Toy Story and Fargo. Today I decided to do some TV shows that were popular with the Sci-Fi fans. Let's jump right in starting off with Buffy!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

rollingstone.com

Buffy The Vampire Slayer the series began in 1997 and ran until 2003. In that period it catapulted many of the actors to fame including Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Boreanaz, Alyson Hannigan, and Charisma Carpenter to name just a few. Created by the now disgraced Joss Whedon this was one of the biggest shows of the late 1990's. Gellar starred as Buffy who was a teenage vampire slayer along with a cast of her friends and advisor and even a few vampires! It also spun off the series "Angel" which was pretty good too! It's still fun to watch an episode of Buffy now and again on streaming!

Another interesting fact is that this was based off the movie "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" also written by Joss Whedon.

The X-Files

chorus.fm

What would the 90's be without The X-Files? Agents Mulder and Scully investigating the paranormal with Mulder the believer and Scully the skeptic. It was a great show, but they did have some hits and misses. I would say about 50 percent of the episodes were great and the other half often so-so. It's an iconic show that everyone watched in the 90's!It even spun off a movie in 2008 with "X-Files: I Want To Believe".

Now for some great music from the 90's!

Foo Fighters

karineademoe.blogspot.com

One of my favorite bands for the 1990's is the Foo Fighters. Their influence continues to influence bands until this day. They formed in 1994 in Seattle, Washington and since that time have become a legendary rock band. The song I'll share to day is a bit of a cheat because this song technically was released shortly after 1999, but it still has the 90's energy and sound. This one is called "All My Life", and this comes from a live concert in the UK in 2008. And at the time they still had drummer Taylor Hawkins who sadly passed away in 2022, may he rest in peace.

Weezer

thecurrent.org

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1992 Weezer has become well known and prolific rock band. In 1994 they recorded their debut album under the production of Ric Ocasek who was the was one of the lead vocalists for the band The Cars. The self titled album launched them into the music mainstream and have been a prolific band over the years. This song comes from their debut effort and is called "Buddy Holly":

Alice In Chains

spinditty.com

Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1987 this band's unique sound made them famous after their debut album and release of the video "Man In The Box". Despite all their success drug addiction was lurking behind the scenes ultimately taking the lives of two of the original band members, vocalist Layne Staley and bassist Mike Starr. However, in 1992 their album "Dirt" delivered multiple hits including one called "Rooster" written by guitarist Jerry Cantrell about his father's time in the Vietnam War.

Because I lived most of the 1990's in countries that really only spoke Spanish I usually throw in one or two song that I recall from the era. I was going to throw in a Mexican singer from the early 90's but all the videos I could find came from horrible VHS recordings. Maybe later! Instead I went with a Puerto Rican singer...

Millie Corretjer

Millie Corretjer is a Puerto Rican actress and singer who was well known in the 1990's. She married Mexican boxer Oscar de la Hoya in 2001 and disappeared from singing and acting, but like most celebrity marriages it ended in 2016. One song I recall was very popular on the radio back in the mid 1990's was a song off her album "Emociones" (Feelings) and is called "Amame" (Love Me):

That will wrap up this edition of Nineties Friday. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and checking it out. I hope you enjoyed some or all of the picks I placed in there today. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. And thank you to everyone for all of your support, it really is greatly appreciated!

What would the 90s be without the X-Files….☺️
Definitely a few hit and misses, but enough to keep you tuning in each week to follow the constantly involving plot !😇

What a great community concept. So many things flying in my mind about the nineties. I'll have to participate in it in the near future.

Oh Buffy the Vampire Slayer, haha. I watched a few shows but never got serious with it. The Foo Fighters, Weezer and Alice in Chains are awesome bands. Listened to a lot of their music in the nineties 😊 Never got into Millie but watched her husband fight many times 🥊 That Trinidad fight to end the nineties he was robbed.

Take care 😁
