Nineties Friday with some Hannibal Lecter

mentalfloss.com

Friday is finally upon us, TGIF! I hope everyone has had a great week. It's been a busy week for me trying to catch up with everything, but I'm almost there so I can just take it easy this weekend. Because it is Friday I will be doing a #ninetiesfriday post today, it's an event that was started by @geneeverett in which you can share just about anything from the 1990's. Your imagination is the limit! Each week a winner will be chosen and they will win 6 HSBI unit, 3 from Gene and 3 from me. Please feel free to join in the fun and create you own Nineties Friday post.

Let's get things rolling with a couple of the greatest movies of the decade. Pulp Fiction is of course the greatest in my opinion, but since I already shared it sometime back here are some also very high on the list.

Unforgiven

Clint Eastwood's career had cooled off significantly by the late 1980's. But he had an ace up his sleeve, a new western movie that showed a more human side of the old west. Starring Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, and Morgan Freeman it was one of the best westerns ever made. It also revitalized Eastwood's career. If you haven't seen it, it's well worth seeing. Here's the original trailer:

The Silence of the Lambs

Here we are introduced to Hannibal Lecter, one of the creepiest characters of all time. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Jody Foster it was one of the best films of the decade. Foster plays an FBI agent trying to stop a serial killer and attempts to enlist the help of cannibal and serial killer Lecter played by Anthony Hopkins. It's a great film, another I would highly recommend if somehow you haven't seen it. Here's the trailer:

Next up lets' jump into some great music from the nineties...

Blues Traveler

jambase.com

Blues Traveler formed in 1987 in Princeton, New Jersey. After three albums failing to make into mainstream music they finally became a household name with their fourth album "four". I remember the video for Run-Around was played everywhere! They have a great sound and are one of my favorite bands to come out of the 90's music scene. I got inspired to share these after @davedickeyyall went to see them play on July 4 this year. Every year they play a Fourth of July concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado.

Here are three of their best songs, starting off with "Run-Around"

Next up who can forget "But Anyway"?

And to finish out the trio of Blues Traveler let throw in "Hook":

What a great band, they're always fun to listen to!

Because I spent most of the 1990's living in countries that really only spoke Spanish, I always like to throw in some great songs from the era in Spanish.

Myriam Hernández

corazon.cl

Myriam Hernandez is a Chilean singer known for her strong voice and romantic music. From the late 80's and early 90's she was everywhere in the Latin American music scene. This is the first track off of her second album "dos" (Two), it's called Peligroso Amor (Dangerous Love):

Elvis Crespo

Now for something much more upbeat, and some merengue from the Caribbean! Elvis Crespo was named for none other than Elvis Presley and was born in New York City, but his family moved to Guaynabo, Puerto Rico when he was still very young. He started his career in a merengue band Grupo Mania but went solo in 1997. The move paid off very well with several hits from his first solo outing, including "Tu Sonrisa" (Your Smile):

That will finish up this week's Nineties Friday. I hope you enjoyed the movie picks and music as well. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below! Thank you for all of your support, it is greatly appreciated!

Great band, it was their sound that really set them apart. How's Friday treating you?

Treating me alright I guess. Couldn’t sleep again last night. But all is good.

I've been taking sleeping pills for years, damn PTSD... Now it appears that magic mushrooms help with not only PTSD, but depression, anxiety, and several other problems. Of course the politicians don't want to make them legal even though they should...

We introduced my niece to Silence of the Lambs a few years ago. She is a big horror fan, so she handled it well. It was still creepy for me even after all these years!

The silence of the lambs still gives me the chills, lol. That picture of him is a great shot to give you the chills. :) I remember my mother was a huge fan when it came out because of Jody Foster's acting. She loved her.
