Nineties Friday with the Blair Witch...

framerated.co.uk

Welcome back to another edition of Nineties Friday. This is a weekly event where you can share just about anything from the decade of the 1990's, your imagination is the limit. I have shared coins, gadgets, movies, music , television shows, and other sundry items. It's always fun putting one of these together and I hope you find today's picks interesting!

The image up top should give you an idea of at least one of the picks for the day, any guesses?

Reservoir Dogs

ar.inspiredpencil.com

Every film maker has to have their big full length film debut, and for Quentin Tarantino this was a huge one. In true Tarantino style the film flashes back and forth in time revealing the story line. A group of men are recruited for a diamond heist that doesn't go quite as planned. Multiple people are shot including one of the crew. After the robbery the crew suspect that it was all a setup and the police were on the way. It get uglier from there...

It's a great movie if you somehow missed it!

The Blair Witch Project

playpc.io

The Blair Witch Project introduced the world to a whole new style of film making. in 1994 a group heads into the woods to make a documentary about a local myth known as the Blair Witch. They all disappear and the footage was later found which makes up the movie. The shaky camera and self filming created a whole new genre of film and introduced many to paranormal investigations. Love it or hate it, it changed the face of movie making!

Seinfeld

quotesgram.com

A couple weeks ago @dbooster did a post called "You n=Need to Laugh More" featuring Lloyd Bridges. He was a legendary actor who starred in some really funny movies like Airplane! and Hot Shots! one and two. I'll put al link to his post below if you want to see more. He appeared in Seinfeld as recurring character Izzy Mandelbaum. In this clip Jerry's parents hire Bridges as a personal trainer to get him in shape. Of course his version of working out comes straight from the 1950's!

Guns N' Roses

spin.com

Formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, California from the combination of two bands, L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose. They became one of the biggest heave metal acts of all time in the late 80's and early 90's. This is a cover of a song Paul McCartney wrote in the 70's for a James Bond movie of the same name, Live And Let Die. They made a great version of the song released on "Use Your Illusion I" in 1991

Metallica

rollingstone.com

Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, California they have been one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world for decades. In 1991 they released their self titled (often called The Black) album. It featured multiple hits songs including "Enter Sandman". This one comes from the same album, "Sad But True":

Red Hot Chili Peppers

kerrang.com

Formed in 1982 in Los Angeles, California the Chili Peppers slowly gained a following throughout the 1980's but suffered for drug and alcohol problems. After going sober they released the album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" in 1991 making them a mainstream band. Off that album came a song written about the loneliness front man Anthony Kiedis felt after becoming drug free. Here's "Under The Bridge":

I spent most of the 1990's living in countries that really only spoke Spanish, so I like to throw in at least one song from the era in Spanish. This one comes from Uruguay, a beautiful country in South America if you ever get the chance to visit!

Natalia Oreiro

fanpop.com

This is a song on the cusp of the nineties released in 2000, but it's still a lot of fun. Natalia Oreiro is an actress and singer from Uruguay that became mainstream in the late 1990's. There aren't many big artists from the South American nation so it's fun to share. She only released a few albums before concentrating on acting, but she has a great voice, and she's not bad looking either. This song is "Tu Veneno" (Your Poison):

That will wrap up this week's #ninetiesfriday . Feel free to join us and share anything from the 90's, one person will win six HSBI units, 3 from Gene and 3 from me. Just use the tag #ninetiesfriday and not a bad idea to shoutout @geneeverett . Have a great weekend everyone!

I actually agree, but for some reason it's rated as one of the most "important" films of the 90's. It's not the style of movie I enjoy either, I'm more a Pulp Fiction kind of guy!

That's why I put in Reservoir Dogs, not as good as Pulp Fiction but not bad for his first full length film

I think Pulp Fiction is his best film.. I'll bet I've seen that movie at least 50 times.. and if I'm channel surfing and it's on I'll watch

Blair witch 1 and 2 both were good. They kind of created the new era in found footage.

It changed film making style forever, a very low budget production that made a fortune at the box office!

I was in a heavy metal mood, and in the 90's there are limited choices in that particular genre! Maybe I should have gone with Rob Zombie!
