Some Caribbean Sounds for Three Tune Tuesday
https://img.inleo.io/DQmY9C9bkLeLuaZt6FDVMqukHcHC3BvkBgtxEQYJLb8RK57/DP0HuqznQPGfQ_DdDl3ehQ.webp
It looks like our long awaited push of bitcoin past that one hundred thousand dollar mark is going to take it's sweet time to arrive. It's alright by me, because it gives me a chance to pick up a few more sats at slightly lower prices, and hopefully the push really comes! On Hive we had a nice surge to almost thirty-one cents and then someone sold off a giant chunk crashing the price all the way down to twenty-six cents. I'm not sure who was taking profits, but that was a painful drop. It's struggling back up slowly past twenty-nine cents, I'm routing it on back upward!
Being Tuesday I'll be creating another Three Tune Tuesday. First off thanks to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this weekly event. I've been participating for more than a year, and it's a lot of fun. If you don't already take part feel free to join us by creating a post of your own sharing some tunes that you enjoy. Each week one random participant will win some HSBI units, and those are the gift that keep on giving!
My picks today are a bit of a departure from my usual style here on #TTT . But I don't want to type cast into rock n roll only! One thing that I love about living in the Caribbean was all the different styles of music you could enjoy. I always found calypso a lot of fun with the steel drums, but as a general rule I don't listen to it very often. Today I pulled out an old play list and put it on, and today's selections were some of the first to play!
First off we'll go with a California one hit wonder!
Burning Sensations
bigidea.fandom.com
This was a very short lived California band from the early 1980's that featured former "The Motels" singer Tim McGovern. They were a true one hit wonder on MTV with their calypso/rock fusion song "Belly of the Whale". The song referring to biblical prophet Jonah who refused to preach fearing he might be killed. So he boarded a ship to sail away, but a storm began destroying the ship. Jonah confessed it was because of him and was thrown overboard and the storm stopped. Consequently Jonah was swallowed by a whale and lived there for three days before being spat out. I do recall a couple things from Sunday School after all... Anyway, this is a cool song, "Belly of the Whale":
Robert Palmer
mojo4music.com
Robert Palmer was a singer/ songwriter from Yorkshire, England, born in 1949. He launched his career in the mid 1960's eventually picking up some following as a solo artist in the late 1970's. In the early 1980's his career continued to do well with some hit songs and some commercial success. However, in 1985 he joined forced with Duran Duran members Andy and John Taylor, and drummer Tony Thompson forming the super group "The Power Station" which shot his career to new heights. "Addicted to Love" came not long after making him a solo superstar.
Sadly he was a heavy smoker since his teen years and suffered a fatal heart attack in Paris in 2003 at the age of 54. This song I'm sharing was from 1983 called "Pride", it was heavily influenced by the time he spent living in the Bahamas. It has pure calypso sound!
The Clash
futuro.cl
Even The Clash produced a calypso song on their album "Sandinista" in 1980. While it wasn't the best song on the album or the best they ever produced, it's always fun to hear bands explore new music styles. Last week I shared some ska they produced with "Rudie Can't Fail", and this week it will be "Let's Go Crazy":
And a bonus tune, you can't talk about calypso without this legend!
Harry Belafonte
news.sky.com
Born in 1927 in New York City to parents of mixed Jamaican ancestry, Belafonte popularized calypso music internationally in the 1950's. An interesting factoid was his album "Calypso" from 1956 was the first LP to ever sell more than one million copies by a single artist. Throughout the 50's and 60's he made the genre a world wide phenomenon, he's even referred to as the king of calypso. He only passed away this past year at 96 years of age but was still working pretty much until the end. Talk about a long and productive life!
Almost everyone will recognize at least of few of his songs including the "Banana Boat" song and this one "Jump in the Line (Shake, Senora):
That will wrap up this Tuesdays edition of #threetunetuesday . I hope you enjoyed the Caribbean inspired calypso music, it's always fun to share something new and different. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below, and thank you for all of your support! It is greatly appreciated! I hope you all have a great day, thanks for stopping by!

The clash probably was the first pop punk band! I see some good influences of this band in other bands like green day etc.
The Clash were a huge influence on bands until today. They were true icons of punk! And in this song calypso!

I’d say it was the Descendents but only because I wouldn’t call the Clash pop punk. I’d give it to the Ramones punk f the clash count 🎸
I agree there!
As long as you're not talking about that dumb Disney show Descendants! Just kidding, Descendants had some great music!
🤣 nah that that! The early eighties punk band 😃
Classic tune from Belfonte, hadn't heard it in a long time. Great theme this week.
Thanks! He was a true legend!
Nice tunes for Sat stacking Tuesday!👍😊
I’m looking forward to also picking up a few extra Sats on the cheap!😇
Keep stacking those Sats, that push is still coming. Only question is when?
It looks like some of the alt are starting to rocket!👍

I'm ready for the bulls to run. I'm tired of waiting! Nice picks today. I'm definitely going to dig into that first one a bit more!
Thanks! Burning Sensations have some other good songs, YouTube has a few. It can be hard to find other material from those one hit wonders in the early eighties!
Yeah, that is a good point. I love digging into some of those though. Just because the world didn't think the full album was great, doesn't mean it wasn't!
I agree completely, I have some albums that were not big but were full of great music!
Very nice selections.
Thanks!

The Clash covered so many genres, one of my top ten bands for sure. Such a shame about Robert Palmer and I totally forgot about The Power Station. Some great tunes today and of course who doesn't love listening to come Caribbean sounds!
The Clash was an amazing band! Palmer might still be around had he not been a smoker, but the man lived a good life even if it was short! Living in the Caribbean for those years really gave me more of an appreciation for all of the genres that were derived there. I'm glad you liked it. You had a great TTT this week too!
The Clash is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time! I got to see Joe Strummer live in 1999 but no clash tunes only his solo stuff. I went knowing I didn’t like his solo albums as much but I just had to be able to say I saw strummer live! Plus MxPx opened and they did it for same reason just to say they opened for there hero. At time they were a headliner and probably lost money doing the opening spot but hey that’s a magic memory. For me to see em and them to open for em!
Too bad he didn't play any Clash songs when you were there, I know he did play some in some of his shows. Then he died so there was never even a chance to get the band back together... That's cool that MxPx opened, that must have one cool show!
I will have to give these a listen another day as I love myself some good caribbean music!
