Three Tune Tuesday with The Cult

Generated with ideogram.ai

Tuesday is here again which means it's once again Three Tune Tuesday! It's one of my favorite events every week and I always look forward to it. Thanks to @ablaze for starting the event and continuing to sponsor it every week. You can win up the 12 HSBI units by participating in the weekly event and the winner is chosen at random. Just make sure to include @ablaze in you post and/or put TTT in you tags.

Last week someone shared a song by The Cult and it got me thinking maybe it's time a should do a Tuesday featuring the band. I can' t remember who shared it but thank you for the inspiration. They were one of my favorites in the late 1980's and are still fun to listen to today.

The Cult are an English hard rock band formed in 1983. The lead singer Ian Astbury had been in several bands before forming the current band, including the Southern Death Cult. Using part of the old name they played in 1984 as Death Cult before settling on the band name The Cult. In 1984 they gained a following in the UK but really broke into mainstream music with the release of the album Electric in 1987. While touring they were supported by a then unknown band by the name of Guns N' Roses. They had continued success through the mid 1990's when they broke up as bands almost always do. However with time they reunited and are still producing music to this day.

The Cult in the mid 1980's

Wild Flower

This track came off the Album electric in 1987. The lead track from the album was Wild Flower, and although it didn't chart as high as the other songs on the album, it's still a very catchy song. I remember it being played on local radio stations back then, and I've always liked it. Have a listen:

Love Removal Machine

Love Removal Machine also came off the the Electric album and fared much better on the charts than did the lead track. I recall hearing Ian Astbury discuss his inspiration behind the song, it was AC/DC's strong guitar that really drove his writing of the song. I love the guitar in it, another great song!

She Sell Sanctuary

This version of She Sells Sanctuary is a more recent recording and just goes to show that the band can still record just as well today as back in the the 1980's. I can't remember who shared this track last week, but it's great so I included it today in mine as well. It was originally released on the Album Love in 1985. Have a listen:

That will do it for my Three Tune Tuesday this week. I hope you enjoyed the picks of the week, I had fun picking them out. It wasn't easy because there are many other great songs that I had to leave off. If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions please feel free to leave them below. Have a great Tuesday!

I remember the post you are talking about, but I don't remember who it was. Oddly enough, they also talked about a band called Cults and I took a deep dive into them over the past week. It was some really good stuff!

Opening act "Guns N' Roses "..........never heard of this unknown band Lol! 😇
Sad once again to have a good band break up! 🙄

That's how the music scene works, support a bigger band until you make it big. And they made it really big!

It's sad to see good bands break up, but many re-unite like these guys. Then you have GNR who hated each other for years and old recently reconciled!

Exactly…… many “Opening” bands went on to be more popular than the main show!😇😊

Can't say I had a huge big hair 80s list. That's when I went metal and hiphop, but these guys sound decent.

These guys were more goth metal which made them different. What kind of metal are you into?

I do love The Cult and to be honest preferred them to Guns n Roses!

Just a heads up about posts with Inleo, I am curator for Inleo and whilst we curate posts written with Inleo UI they need to be in the correct community. LeoFinance community is only for finance/crypto. You can change the community when you use the UI but it defaults to leofinance...
