Hello again everyone! I've been participating in #threetunetuesday now for at least a year now. It makes Tuesdays a little more interesting because it's a break from the usual themes throughout the week. First off I would like to thank @ablaze for starting and continuing to support this weekly event. Every week it's fun to find some new music I've never heard before, and often I end up adding it to my playlists.

Last week @wwwiebe had some cool stuff from the era of World War I, he even had a song by Irving Berlin from 1918, it was awesome! He always has some interesting vintage music that is fun to hear, always worth checking out his Three Tune Tuesday!

Let's dive on into this weeks edition. Last night I heard some music by the band Blondie, and that got the mental gears moving. So I decided to go with some bands that are fronted by women in the early days of punk. There are a lot of good choices, but I felt like going with these three. Let's get started with a band that both Joan Jett and Lita Ford as band members before they both shot to fame as solo artists. That band was "The Runaways".

The Runaways

vintag.es

The Runaways were an all female punk/hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1975. Although they were only around for a short four years they left their mark on the rock music. In 1976 they released their debut album that features the song "Cherry Bomb" making them famous very quickly. One of the most notable things about the band was two of the band's members, Joan Jett and Lita Ford. After their breakup both went onto massive success as solo artists. But it all started with "Cherry Bomb":

Formed in 1974 in New York City, Blondie finally found success in their third album "Parallel Lines" which was release in 1978 and featured the song "Heart of Glass". Debbie Harry is the band's front woman and a very talented singer. They managed to mix in elements of different styles into their punk origins, making them one of the top bands of the late 70's and early 80's. This song is from 1979, "One Way Or Another":

Siouxsie and the Banshees

Formed in London in 1976, Siouxsie and the Banshees were fronted by Siouxsie Sioux. She was a big fan of the band that would become the Sex Pistols and formed her own band. By 1978 their shows were sold out across the UK, but continually were have lineup changes. At one point in 1979 Robert Smith of The Cure filled in on guitar for a tour because they were unable to find a guitarist that suited their needs. By 1980 they were a well known band around the world. This song comes from their fourth album "Juju" released in 1981, "Spellbound":

I don't think I have heard many songs from the last one. I am going to have to dig into them. The Lita Ford catalog is quite impressive. I have spent several days listening to her stuff in the past.

The last one is more obscure, in the late 80's I remember the song Peek A Boo from them. They made some good music though!

Lita produced some great music over the years...

Thanks for sharing the info on the ladies. The only two I recognize and even listened to were Joan Jett after she left Cherry Bomb and headed up The Blackhearts with her all-time fabulous hits I love "I Love Rock and Roll" and the remake of "Crimson and Clover". I was so excited when she finally was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.

And Blondie's One Way or Another was lovely also.

Both great bands! Joan Jett got her start with The Runaways. Without them there likely wouldn't have been Joan Jett and the Blackhearts! She deserved to be in the R&R Hall of Fame, I agree!

Did you hear about the farmer that fed his chickens avocados?
All you could hear around there was “guac, guac, guac, guac.”

Some good picks man. I had never heard of the last one before. Also never knew Lita Ford had been with the Runaways either.

Many people don't realize that without The Runaways there likely never would have been a Lita Ford or Joan Jett.

These are some pretty epic songs! Blondie, definitely, had a far reaching impact. They're also credited with recording the first rap song with Rapture!

When I was younger I did not appreciate punk nearly as much as I do now. These are really fun to listen to.

(And thanks for the shoutout!)
