My Newly Found Love For Prawns!

Prawn Noob

A year ago, I decided to be bold and try shrimps at our table grill Christmas dinner. I finally learned to like them and we didn't really let them sit in a marinade for long at the time. But at least I learned how to eat something new, or at least something that I did not want to eat all my life, haha.

I thought all these little shrimpy things were actual shrimps but this Christmas I learned that this time we had prawns instead. I looked up the difference and this is what I found on Reddit:

Apparently, I wasn't the only Prawn noob out there, lol.

This Christmas, we had prawns

We both agreed that we should marinate them a few hours before dinner started and my boyfriend did a great job at it by adding a simple marinade of olive oil with garlic and fresh parsley. We first ate the steak and chicken before trying the prawns but once we did, we were sold, I could have eaten prawns only from that moment. If only we had more of them, lol.

Sadly we didn't because we were gifted this box of prawns recently by the Carrefour supermarket during their weekly gift for customers shopping in the supermarket over online shopping. I figured we might as well save them for Christmas as it's so nice having these on the table grill. Now that I enjoyed them so much, I'm definitely going to check for more dishes with these to see if I can find some more occasions to eat them.

Trying new things

I've been a seriously picky eater all my life, but not as bad as my youngest, she's 10x worse! Over the years, I learned to try new things by trusting my boyfriend when he says if you eat it like this, you will like it, I'm sure. He was usually right. I just needed someone to understand why I didn't like certain things and adding a bit more flavour in a certain way (or less flavour lol, depending on what it is) to make me try it again.

I wish our daughter would be a bit more open to new things as well, but we're making some steps lately. Just not with prawns, because they are disgusting according to her. I will let her have this one though, as I can understand, haha.

Do you like prawns or shrimps? Let me know in a comment below :)

I love shrimp and prawns! Yummy! I didn't really grow up eating shrimp it was something I acquired as an adult, but they are awesome! Looks like you did a great job!

What's your favourite way to eat them? I'm looking for some inspiration to try out new things so if you have tips, shoot please :)

My mother couldn't afford these but I remember every time when we had the table grill for Christmas with the family, my aunt and uncle would buy good quality prawns and they'd eat them first before we could put other meat on the grill. I always found it HIGHLY annoying because they'd eat that with 5 adults or something and it would take forever before we could eat, lol.

I remember several years ago Red Lobster (a restaurant here in the US) had all you can eat shrimp, they do it a couple times a year. On this occasion they had grilled shrimp with Sriracha sauce, they were awesome. But then again I love hot and spicy and Sriracha is one of my favorites!

Growing up we didn't have shrimp or prawns because they were expensive and we were in a landlocked state. I really never got into shrimp or prawns until I was an adult!

Oh I would not mind trying that one day, to try new variations of shrimp or prawns. I think I can at least check out a few more tapas now that I'm open to these, which is great :)

I don't like hot and spicy myself but the boyfriend does. Even though he has to be careful not upsetting his stomach and pay the price for a whole night being in pain if it's too much.

Landlocked is surely not helping, it was the same for us. But I was even more difficult than my daughter trying new things as a child, lol. It's revenge, I guess :)

Ironically I live pretty close to the ocean her in California, but shrimp fishing isn't allowed here. So shrimp are all imports. I love shrimp and prawns though. If his stomach is sensitive to too much spice he should be taking a proton pump inhibitor at least half and hour before eating spicy food. They're over the counter medications, I'm not sure what they're called in Spain, but a generic brand here is omeprazole. I'm sure you can find it's equivalent there by looking it up.

Kids are picky, but my son always loved shrimp. It was one of his favorites. He also loves lobster. Those were delicacies I never tried growing up because my parents couldn't afford them. The world's a different place now than when I was a kid.

Yes he does that often here it's called almost the same. The thing is that this is not the biggest issue. He's stubborn though, he and doctors.. I never tried lobster.. not sure if I'd like it but I will try it one day, lol.

How are you doing?

Not too bad, just the regular morning aches and pains. Supposed to warm and sunny so it should be nice out there today! The trick with omeprazole is to take it an hour before you eat so it has time to absorb, it you take it with food it won't work at all.

I can imagine. Although I never had it on the barbie, that's because when we had one, I didn't eat them yet lol. But I'm sure I will try that in the future because everything tastes better on a barbie if you ask me!
