Bye bye medication

I can't even express well enough how happy we are that we can now say goodbye to the liquid medication for the Giardia parasite the kittens were "blessed" with. Man, it has been a pain to administer this to them, they absolutely hate it and I had a few times where too much came out of the syringe at once, making it even worse and them not willing to take the rest. I guess this is normal but I really don't like to force-hold them to be able to give the needed medication. so, therefore, this day is great because we now don't have to give them anymore, woohoo!

No grudges

Thankfully for us, the kittens didn't like it but also didn't hold any grudges when we had given them the meds either. Right after giving them the dose, they were open to cuddling and we gave them a bit of wet food after so they could at least get rid of the taste. The wet food was ok again once the poop started to get back to normal.

Fingers crossed

Tomorrow I will need to give a sample of the poop to the vet and when it comes back negative (I'm sure it will) then the babies are ready to move on to their next home. I'm actually pretty sad about them leaving and we will miss all of them so much. I hope we will stay updated about their ventures with the new families.

New kitten waiting

It seems there's another baby waiting for a foster home. One of the volunteers found her under a small building at the carwash today and we were there when she got rescued in the evening as I said let's wash the car and then we can also check if the kitten is already rescued or not. She was meowing and I sent an app to the volunteer, she came right away and there she was, the kitten in the trap. She asked us if we wanted to come with her and another volunteer to get her out of the trap into the carrier.

First time rescue

We decided to go as my boyfriend was still washing the car anyway. It was next to the carwash and we entered the building and then the patio where there was a bathroom, used for the tennis court. A good place to make sure she didn't get hurt (or the volunteers of course) while transferring her into the carrier. I told her that we'd like to foster the kitten as the others would soon leave but that we'd need a few days to get everything sorted at home and well-cleaned like the pillow and the playpen and scratching post.

We took pictures and then said goodbye to the kitten. She went with one of the volunteers and I told the person arranging the foster places that we'd like to foster her and possibly adopt her. We could not adopt any of the previous kittens because they were all taken, now we could get to know the kitten and see if she's our match, or not.

Knowing that there was another one waiting for us slightly made it less sad that this was probably the very last evening with the four kittens left in our home. We did some extra rounds of cuddles, obviously! And we took MANY pictures!

They are so cute! I have the same thing noticed about cats when you give them medicines. It's like somehow they know the stuff makes them feel better so they don't get mad at you or get scared the next time.

I agree haha, like infinite bundles of joy!
Cats are smart in that way, although if they have to get it liquid and quite a bit of it, it's harder to give them, I really don't like it. Sometimes you have to though, when they're too small for tablets..

Thankfully, they will not cuddle me any less even when I harass them with meds :)

Huh I quite find it easier if it’s liquid form, squirt it with the syringe and they’re good to go🤣 but yeah I guess I haven’t tried getting more ml of liquid that you have to squirt it little by little cos they can already fight it if it’s the second time lol.

Geez I hate those tabs that are too big tho. Mew was 4 months old when we took him to the vet for parvo, coronavirus, and giardia (he survived luckily :D) and they had prescribed him a tablet that’s so big even I can’t imagine myself taking it whole haha. I had to divide it into 8 pieces, that means giving it to him 8x with his tiny throat 😓

The thing is the syringes we have aren't too great. One is too small to give the full dose and the other is better but really hard not to push everything out at once and when that happens, it's a huge shock and a lot gets wasted.

We're now on our second round of fostering (I yet have to finish this chapter today though in the blogs) and I can spoil already that the two we have now also have Giardia, the other 5 did too. They were found in the garbage and I was told that chances are big they end up having it.

This time I had a choice as the vet asked me do I want liquid or tablets and I said please give me a tablet. I saw how they gave the tablet to the kittens for deworming and figured it would be less hassle and less stressful. But as you mentioned, tablets are so big that I need to cut them in 4. Thankfully the first half is easy with the line on the tablet but even dividing the half tablets in 2 is a pain, I mean I don't like to swallow tablets that taste like powder either it makes it extra gross. Now I ended up with 1 kitten who has tablets as I had a choice, and the other with the liquid (best of both worlds, Nahum haha)

Did Mew get rid of the Giardia right away? I remember your post about it but back then I wasn't fostering yet so the info didn't stick about Giardia. This nest we had first needed two weeks of meds, all liquid, horrible :) But it's easier to manage with 1/2 kittens I guess as they don't make such a mess as 5.

I really love Mew's looks! The one we have now makes the "mew" sound so the one taking care of her before we took her said she called her "mew" It reminded me of your cat :)

Good job on the fostering!! Those kittens are gonna be in a loving environment which helps a lot with their recovery.

It’s the same reason I hate swallowing tablets or capsules as well. Aside from the awful taste, there will always a feeling that the tablet’s stuck in my throat so I always end up drinking a lot of water which is very annoying. I can’t imagine it for cats who usually don’t even drink water after :/

We just had followup checkup but they didn’t test anything again, just had some questions and looked at him physically. Maybe it wasn’t necessary on him? Dunno but now he’s all healthy and naughty🤣

Yeah I forgot to say it actually kinda looks like Mew! What a coincidence haha being called Mew as well🤣
