A Sign Of The Times, Getting Robbed?
Today I got my bag robbed, whilst I was in town. It had all my money in it, (yes foolish me, carrying all the cash I had, on me.) but I had a payment due. It also had my work keys, some food and perhaps most important to me, a piece of Connemara Marble that my sister had gifted me, when I was pregnant with my first child. I have been carrying it around with me for the last 16 years and since she passed, if felt so good to always carry it with me, to have a piece of her with me.
I know, I carry her in my heart, but this stone was shaped like a heart and it was from one of her favourite places in the world.
The work keys are a problem of course, I need them to be able to work. Which I really need to do now, that all my money was stolen. My work is cash in hand, which suited me, until of course my cash got stolen. I did have my bank card in there as well, but I could freeze that, so that is not a problem.
I went around to shops, I checked bins, I tried to go to the Policia, but they were shut for the day. So I walked around town, thinking maybe I spot someone with it. What I would do, well, approach them and hope for the best. At this stage I have accepted that I have lost the money, but the keys and stone I would really like to get back.
I spoke with a friend of mine, who said that there was a place in town, where you could go if something had been stolen and if it is there you can maybe buy it back. This is also the place people go to buy hardcore drugs. Which to be honest, is not where I wanted to be going at night. Plus I had no money. My friend offered to go with me, to see if it was there and if so make a plan.
So off we set, feeling somewhat apprehensive, the moment we got to this area, a man approached us, asking what we needed. So my friend who has much better Spanish than me, explained why we were there. Straight away the gut said he could go look, but would need 30 euro to do so. Which sounded well dodgy to me, plus I have no money now, as it was in my bag.
I told him, if he could show me the bag, or take a photo of it and show me, then I would find a way to get the money. He said no and also that he needed to leave in 10 minutes. I was feeling desperate, so I called another friend, who told me not to be stupid, to not hand over any money, with no proof. Well that's easy to do, as I don't have any, so of course I left empty handed. With still no idea where my bag could be.
I get it, with the cost of living rising everywhere, these are hard times for everyone. Like I said I'm happy to let the money go, I just want the keys and the stone. I really hope they turn up. I went to lots of shops and tomorrow I will go to the policia, but I have been warned that unless the bag and contents were valved over 400 euro, then they won't really help me. But maybe someone handed it in? I can hope, can't I.

Oh no! I understand about the stone, I have the stone my son often asked to hold, as he was dying, in a necklace. It gave him comfort, and now it does the same for me. I would be devastated to lose it. The stone will come back to you. You must hope. And search. It won't come on a magic carpet to your door, but it is trying to get back to you.

That happened to me too. Luckily, there was a video of the couple who took my purse. The police found the couple, and my purse was returned to me, minus the cash. I had my carry-silver in my purse, which is why I wanted my purse back!

I once lost my wallet at work and looked everywhere for it. It had $500 in it and all of my ID and such. We were working at a remote site, and after 8 hours of work it was time to make the long drive back to the office. I made a quiet prayer to God as I really needed my wallet back...
As we were pulling into the driveway, I couldn't believe my eyes...
There, lying perfectly between the two painted road stripes lay my wallet. Hundreds of cars must have driven past it, but because it was black on a dark road and lined up in the PERFECT position, nobody saw it for 8 HOURS.
I darted out to get it thanking the good Lord Jesus along the way. The next day I bought a truckers wallet with the chain attached and have never lost it since. Good luck!
Oh wow, that is so lucky. I've kind of accepted that my wallet and bag is gone, but I do hope I get my stone back and the keys would be great also.

I'm really sorry to hear about your stollen items, @trucklife-family. While I haven't had many things stolen from me, when it has happened, it always felt like such a violation. Oh man! I am so sorry to hear that your items were taken! That's crazy they were asking 30 euro to go see if the bag was even there! I'm hopeful you will get back your keys and stone. Years ago, on our honeymoon, someone broke into our rental car and stole my purse which had our passports and money in it. We had decided we needed to cancel the rest of our trip and head to the capitol city, but hubs thought we should stop at this little police station on our way and ask if they had seen the passports. We said a prayer in the car, walked in, and I told them my name and they told me to wait. They showed me a huge stack of passports and it wasn't in there, but someone went to get the guy with keys to the back closet and they came out with our passports. I was shocked! Saved us a trip to the embassy and a lot of hassle, even if we lost out on some money in the process. I pray your items are returned as well!

Unfortunately, if you had given him the money it is highly unlikely you would see the guy again. It's a common scam that usually involves drugs. :( At the end of the day, once the cash has been taken from your bag it has no value to the person who has taken it so hopefully he will have discarded it somewhere public and you can be reunited with your stone. Don't give up hope - even if it takes a little while, things do have a habit of finding their way back to you. Maybe it could be an idea to print up a leaflet briefly explaining the personal value - and then stick it up in a couple of local areas. You never know, generally there are far more good people than bad out there. X
Yeah, I'm glad I didn't have any money to give him, because yeah it was a scam. But I can see how someone might, when they feel desperate. Yeah I think I will put up a few flyers, I know it is out there waiting to come back to me. Thanks @perceptualflaws xxx
