Really, Why Not?

(Edited)

Meanwhile, The New York Times asks why a part of Ukraine could not join NATO?

And as an argument is that West Germany joined in 1955!

I can if I want, but sometimes I'm lazy)

Because it's at war. HATO would be declaring war by accepting the Ukraine as a member during the hostilities ongoing.

One of those bon mots people come up with from time to time. I think BlackPigeonSpeaks came up with HATO. @everittdmickey came up with enemedia. I use them because they make me chuckle. Overlords need to be mocked IMHO.

Ukraine is a Russian word meaning 'borderlands', IIRC. That is why it has traditionally been used in that way. I don't use the new pronouns either, because they're pushed for the same political reasons. Language isn't static, but it also isn't a political football, if we don't let it be.

Might be the weed but whut? 😄

I just notice that some folks use The Ukraine instead of Ukraine. Thats all. Nothing political about it.

A lot of folks are very political about language. I'm not. I'm glad you're not. I wish more weren't.
