Albert Einstein - Pi Day

March 14. 03/14. 3/14. Or 3.14. It's Pi Day!

The knowledge and nature of pi goes as far back as the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians. Granted, they did not attempt to identify just how many "digits of pi" they could memorise - they had no need for anything that finite - but that had an understanding of the use of mathematical calculations.

Personally, I have memorised pi to 12 digits. Why? Honestly, I've no idea. I just have. That information is not even a cocktail party ice breaker. Rather, it's a conversation killer. If you ever want to see a group of people stare at you blankly, tell them that you've memorised more digits of pi than are necessary for day to day use. Trust me. Been there. Done that.

As it turns out, today is also Albert Einstein's birthday. This was new to me, as of today! This is what I learned today. March 14, 1879. I'm dubious that his parents would have celebrated pi day in his honour. I'm just as dubious that he would have ever celebrated pi day, either.

Regardless, in his honour, I have had nightcafe create an Albert Einstein/Pi Day image. Can you spot the pi?

That's quite an achievement to remember 12 digits of pi! I can only do the first 3 before my mind starts going around in circles... 😃

WOW, I did not know that (the thing with Einstein's Birthday).
Yes, I doubt his parents celebrated Pie day, it's not common in German speaking countries, we write the date different: First the day then the month. So for us March the 14th is 14.3. i.e. No pie. :-(
