What I Learned Today - Superb Owl's

Today is one of the most anticipated days of the year, at least in the United States. Tonight more people will ass-sit in front of the television for a multi-hour spectacle that both unites and divides the nation with such passion that even national elections look like school yard disputes.

Yes, today is Superb Owl Sunday!

I stumbled across Superb Owl quite by accident on reddit. It's a typo of some other famous thing or another but, hey, owls are pretty awesome. I think owl's might end up becoming my third creature deck in the Frogs of War combat card game I'm designing.

I get distracted very easily, so after stumbling across Superb Owl, decided to do some Presearching of it. What I learned is that there are more owls than I ever really gave much thought to, but one really stood out to me.

I've always believed that owl's are nocturnal creatures, but not so the Burrowing Owl. Fun facts about the Burrowing Owl:

  • Unlike other owls, the Burrowing Owl hunts during the day.
  • This owl gets it's name from it's den; it will either burrow into the ground, or it will commandeer another burrowing animals burrow (such as a prairie dog).
  • Their underground burrow's are cool and can act something like a refrigeration unit, which the owl uses to it's advantage; it has been known to store extra food in it's burrow for times when it is needed.
  • According to wikipedia, there are 18 subspecies of Burrowing Owl's.
  • Males and females are similar in size.

What I did know prior to today is that owl's of all sizes are pretty awesome creatures.

No, no plans for blockchaining it. My current plan is to make it a physical tabletop game. I'm not adverse to the idea, just not in the plan right now with the resources I have.

As a Brit, it took a minute to get it. Frankly, I'd rather watch birds all night, but thanks for the entertainment. It was a hoot!
