Mittlerweile ist der Sommerurlaub ja schon länger vorbei (und der Sommer auch schon bald). Allerdings wollte ich euch immer noch von unserem Urlaubsort berichten und auch ein kleines bisschen Werbung für die Insel Ameland machen.

Die Insel Ameland liegt in der niederländischen Nordsee nur wenige Kilometer vom Festland entfernt. Die Insel ist ungefähr 27 km lang, 4 km breit und zählt (ohne Touristen) 3.844 Einwohner (Quelle: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameland)

Wir sind mit dem Auto bis nach Holwerd gefahren und haben von dort aus mit der Fähre nach Ameland übergesetzt. Das Auto haben wir dabei auf dem Festland auf einem Inselparkplatz stehen lassen. Unser Urlaubsgepäck für unseren 1-wöchigen Urlaub haben wir in unserem Bollerwagen komplett verstauen können.

Vom Parkplatz aus gibt es einen Shuttlebus der die Urlauber vom Parkplatz zur Fähre bringt. Auch mit dem Bollerwagen war das kein Problem. Der freundliche Busfahrer war sofort zur Stelle und gemeinsam haben wir das gesamte Gepäck inklusive Bollerwagen im Bauch des Busses untergebracht.
Die Parkgebühren für 1 Woche betrugen ca. € 50,00. Zum Vergleich: Das übersetzen mit dem Auto kostet ungefähr € 90,00.

Die Überfahrt von Holwerd nach Nes mit der Fähre dauert ungefähr 1 Stunde. Während der Überfahrt haben wir in der Familie diskutiert, ob die Fährzeit schon zum Urlaub gehört oder ob diese noch zur Anreise zählt.

Da ich nicht mehr selber Auto fahren musste und mir auf der Fähre ein erstes "Amstel" gegönnt habe, war ich der Meinung, das der Urlaub bereits auf der Fähre angefangen hat.

Nach der Überfahrt mussten wir dann vom Hafen in Nes bis zu unserer Ferienwohnung noch ca. 2 Kilometer laufen. Hierbei konnten wir aber schon Auskundschaften, was es alles in der Nähe gibt (Supermarkt, Bäcker, Fahrradverleih, etc.).
Die Ferienwohnung im 1. Obergeschoss war zwar ziemlich klein, aber wir hatten alles, was wir brauchten. Zwei Schlafzimmer, Wohn-/ Essbereich mit kleiner Küche und ein Badezimmer mit Dusche.

Nachdem wir es uns in der Ferienwohnung ein bisschen gemütlich gemacht hatten, sind wir ins Dorf und haben uns dort für die kommende Urlaubswoche ein paar Fahrräder geliehen. Für drei Fahrräder haben wir insgesamt € 85,00 gezahlt. Das finde ich absolut Okay. Vor ein paar Jahren haben wir in Dänemark für einen Tag ungefähr € 60,00 bezahlt.

Nachdem wir nun wieder einen fahrbaren Untersatz hatten, haben wir ein paar Einkäufe gemacht und haben dann das Abendessen zubereitet. Traditionell gibt es an unserem ersten Urlaubstag Nudeln mit Pesto. Das ist lecker und vor allem schnell gemacht.

Den ersten Abend haben wir dann am Strand beim Sonnenuntergang verstreichen lassen.

In den nächsten Tagen werde ich noch ein paar weitere Berichte veröffentlichen, um von ein paar Ausflügen auf der Insel zu berichten. Man kann die Zeit dort am Strand beim Baden verbringen (je nach Wetterlage) oder aber auch viel unternehmen.

Unsere Tochter fährt voraussichtlich in den nächsten Sommerferien wieder mit einer Gruppe in das Ferienlager und meine Frau hat bereits den nächsten Ameland-Urlaub für den Oktober gebucht. Leider habe ich jedoch nicht mehr genügend Urlaub und muss alleine Zuhause bleiben 🙁.

Meanwhile the summer vacation is already longer past (and the summer also soon). However, I still wanted to tell you about our vacation spot and also make a little bit of advertising for the island of Ameland.

The island of Ameland is located in the Dutch North Sea just a few kilometers from the mainland. The island is about 27 km long, 4 km wide and counts (without tourists) 3,844 inhabitants (source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameland)

We drove with the car up to Holwerd and crossed from there with the ferry to Ameland. We left the car thereby on the mainland on an island parking lot. Our vacation luggage for our 1-week vacation we have in our Bollerwagen completely stowed.

From the parking lot there is a shuttle bus that takes vacationers from the parking lot to the ferry. Even with the handcart was no problem. The friendly bus driver was immediately on the spot and together we have the entire luggage including Bollerwagen accommodated in the belly of the bus.
The parking fee for 1 week was about € 50.00. For comparison, the crossing by car costs about € 90.00.

The crossing from Holwerd to Nes by ferry takes about 1 hour. During the crossing we discussed in the family whether the ferry time already belongs to the vacation or whether this still counts to the journey.

Since I didn't have to drive myself and had a first "Amstel" on the ferry, I was of the opinion that the vacation already started on the ferry.

After the crossing, we had to walk from the port in Nes to our apartment about 2 kilometers. Here we could but already Auskundschaften, what there is everything nearby (supermarket, bakery, bike rental, etc.).
The apartment on the 1st floor was quite small, but we had everything we needed. Two bedrooms, living/dining area with small kitchen and a bathroom with shower.

After making ourselves a bit comfortable in the vacation apartment, we went to the village and rented a couple of bikes for the coming vacation week. For three bikes we have paid a total of € 85.00. I find that absolutely okay. A few years ago we paid about € 60,00 for one day in Denmark.

Now that we had a ride again, we did some shopping and then prepared dinner. Traditionally, on our first day of vacation, we have pasta with pesto. This is delicious and most importantly, quick to make.

We then spent the first evening on the beach watching the sunset.

In the next few days, I'll post a few more reports to tell you about a few excursions on the island. You can spend your time there swimming at the beach (depending on the weather) or you can do a lot of things.

Our daughter will probably go with a group to the summer camp again next summer vacations and my wife has already booked the next Ameland vacation for October. Unfortunately, however, I no longer have enough vacation and have to stay home alone 🙁.
