The Cost of Things, November 2024
I was out running erands and stopped to pick up a few groceries. I didn't need much, just some bread and eggs. And while I was there, picked up some sparkling water (which my family enjoys) and some cheese and a few extra items. When I checked out, the bill came to over $50.
I looked at my receipt and at my cart and back at the receipt. How could this be $50? I remember filling an entire shopping cart for $50 - $75. I did the math and calculated 16 items x $3.13 average price each and yes, that's about $50.00.
The other odd thing were the eggs. There was a 2 per customer limit. That's TWO breakfasts for my family! The price was $2.15 which is pretty good these days, as they are upwards of $4 - $5 else ware. Perhaps that's why it's limit 2.
But what are these "supply challenges"? What are the supply challenges? I wonder if this has to do with the "cage free" thing going on in Michigan?
On my way home I filled up the car with fuel. I was pleased to find gas for under $3.00 which I haven't seen for a while. I really hope these prices can be sustained or even better yet, reduced!
Today is November 5th, 2024 Election day. It will be interesting to see what a grocery basket costs next year 2025, along with eggs and gasoline.

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin
We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.
No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13
Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny
Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.
Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.
I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

I bet it happens around the love. My 500 pesos (about $10) would only buy a few kilos of rice and meat that would not last for three days.
Three days, one person? !BBH

In my country we are the same, I am afraid when I have to buy groceries for my family, I never have enough money to buy everything I need.

In Oman, it is still a less price for the groceries. But, in Bangladesh, it's almost killing the low and middle class people! Totally out of control.
Best of luck for the Election day!

Trump won overwhelmingly last night, it'll be interesting to see what a shopping cart will look like one year from now. !BBH

Prices have skyrocketed too in our country since Covid, groceries and gas among them.
The situation is worse in my country. Formerly the amount I spent in the upkeep of the family for three weeks now hardly take us 3 - 4 days. Is so serious.

Oh my, that's a serious situation! !BBH

Lasse, how's your XEN minting coming along? You haven't posted about that since June 22. To show you how long that's been I got this XEN price chart off coingecko.com and marked June 22, 2024 when you last posted about XEN.
By the way, note that it is a "price chart" for the last year. Not a chart showing how XEN has been reducing its power consumption.
Wow! $50 seems pretty expensive for not a lot of things! And 2 cartons of eggs? Yikes! We go through 15 dozen a week. They tried to limit me a while back to 5 dozen at the store, so I had to split up my cart and have kids pay in different lines! The men in my family need their eggs! Ha! My chicken have started producing more recently, thankfully, so now I don't have to buy as much. I buy eggs here on Thursdays when they're 20% off, so they're $1.56 a dozen at the moment. Gas looks super cheap! Nice!
I really hope gas prices stay low and get lower. Our family will have egg laying chickens some day, but most likely not here in the suburbs. 15 dozen eggs a week? That would be a lot of eggshells for our compost! !BBH

Yes, I have been drying out and grinding up the eggshells and refeeding them to the chickens, but I got behind. Now I just throw them in the coop with the rest of the scraps that go to the chickens. My husband and oldest boys eat the majority of the eggs - they drink them raw in a shake to get more protein for their ever-increasing muscle mass thanks to lifting weights.
Eggs are a good source of protein. My wife just ordered beef geletin to put in our oatmeal to suppliment our missing eggs. Still, not the same. !BBH

2.15 per dozen! Uau! Super cheap...
in NZ it's at least 2x that price (and probably on larger packs), if not 4x when you want the bigger ones.
