The Headlights Aren't On, but What About The Lights Upstairs?

Summer isn't quite here yet, so the sun still takes its sweet time coming up in the morning. It seems like every other day, I see at least one or two cars on the road with no headlights on at all. It's clearly dark. Everyone else has their headlights on, the streetlights are on, and even private property lights are all on.

It got me thinking about why people drive without their headlights on when it's dark. Are they oblivious to the fact that the path in front of them is dark, except for the occasional street light? Or do they know better and just not care?

The obvious cause of the problem is stupidity, but is it unintentional or willful? I don't have enough time in my day to follow one of these people and ask them, so perhaps I'll never know. I do find that most of these people are extremely slow or bad drivers, so I typically try to avoid them if possible.

What are your thoughts? Have you talked with someone who has done this? What did they say about it?

The crazy thing is no. I have yet to see one single person pulled over for doing it.

Who knows? Maybe they honestly didn't realize it? That's why most cars now always have the headlights on while driving automatically. It's easier to see a car with lights on even in the day time.

Then again, maybe they thought it was a funny joke or something stupid with a teenager driving...

Yeah, possibly. Most of the people I see doing it aren't young adults. I suppose I'll never know. !LOL

I sometimes forget to turn on the headlights during nighttime because in my area of living, there are street lights almost everywhere. it's totally unintentional to not turning the lights on (if it happens)! It's my reason :)

Sometimes, we see a one-eyed car (one sided light is damaged). So, one possibility is that the headlights are malfunctioning. But, it's quite dangerous to drive in a dark place without the headlights on! But as you have said, without asking them directly, we can't know the exact reason!

That would make sense with lots of street lights. Where I normally drive, they're spaced out every 75 yards so enough for walking but not for driving.
