Splinterlands Favourite Strategies - Partnering Iziar With Healers

It's a new edition of Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge and the theme this week is a very special one! It's Favourite Strategies.

I had previously shared several weeks back using the deadly combo of Astral Entity, Venari Marksrat and Pelacor Deceiver. This time, I would share another combination from the Life deck. It would be Iziar, Sola Ranjell and Venari Crystalsmith.

So what is the strategy?

  • Iziar is indeed a Legendary card over here, not only it has a tanky 12 HP, it has two very important abilities. Taunt allows it to absorb all the incoming damage, and having 12 HP, it's perfect because it can withstand many attacks before it goes down. Having Void is also extremely helpful because this increases its survivability by reducing the damage received from Magic attacks. As for Melee and Ranged attacks, having a speed of 3 is pretty decent and might clock in some misses too.
  • Sola Ranjell is a perfect partner to the combination because she has Tank Heal. For Iziar with 12 HP, this means a heal of 4 HP per turn. This means she could lie low and continue dealing damage, while healing Iziar at the front. And she is very safe because of Iziar's Taunt, unless there is Scattershot in play.
  • Venari Crystalsmith is similar to Sola Ranjell's role here. With two Tank Heal cards combined, they can heal up to 8 HP per turn. This almost makes Iziar near to invincible, and eventually, the damage from all 3 cards will wear down the opposing team, while they are still stuck with Iziar.

So let's use a real battle to show how it's like!

Pre-battle: With just 20 mana to field, this ruleset was optimal to use this strategy because it's Wands Out. With only Magic cards allowed, Iziar's Void would be a huge advantage. Because of the mana quota, we would go with just one healer, Sola Ranjell, in the backline.

Round 1: Right off the bat, Iziar's Void effectively neutralised 3 out of 4 opposing cards because there were all 1 Magic damage cards. With just 1 opposing card dealing damage, my opponent was never going to get through my healer's Tank Heal, which gives up to 4 HP per turn.

Round 2: From then on, it was merely procedural to get through the rounds until we reached the end. This took longer than usual because our cards were also affected by the opposing's summoner Thaddius Brood as well.

Round 3: There was really nothing my opponent could do to reverse this battle as Sola Ranjell also clocked some Bloodlust in the midst of it.

Rounds 4 to 5: And we won easily!

Final Thoughts

The relatively new Iziar "Soulbound" Reward card is indeed an extremely strong card, and when partnered with one or more healers, it becomes extremely strong. In the above battle, you can see how strong it is when it comes to low mana battle, where most of the cards don't even deal more than 1 Magic damage.

For high mana battles, Iziar is also relevant because it fills the mana quotes effectively especially in battles where only 4 or 5 cards can be selected.

Iziar just doesn't have any downsides in my view - perhaps the only downside is the card costs 11 mana to field and is extremely costly because one can field 3 or 4 additional cards that kind of mana. But in Iziar's case, you pay for what you get and it's worth it, and that is why it is also one of the more expensive Rewards cards on the market.

So that's all I have for this week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge. Let me know if you have any comments too!
