2023 1oz Silver Korean Phoenix - Blue Flame Edition
I'm not normally one who buys colorized coins. They typically don't have a great finish to them. Even the ones that are done well just aren't very impressive, yet these colorized coins have a large markup on them compared to a one ounce uncirculated version of the same coin, round, bar, etc.
Then, every once in a while, you come across a colorized coin that's done extremely well and can't help but be impressed. This coin is one of those rare exceptions.
It came in this small custom sleeve. I wasn't surprised, as I'm sure they were trying to keep the costs down anywhere they could. Still, it's a nice sleeve despite being very basic.
Obverse
This is considered the obverse, as it has the Republic of Korea seal and coin denomination stamped on this side of the coin.
You'll notice they even colorized the rim of the coin in blue. I'm impressed they managed to avoid any sort of spillover when making these.
If you look closely, there is a reflective blue hologram alternating on each feather of both phoenixes. Caught in the right light, these add a nice flair to the design.
Reverse
Here we have the star of the show! The Phoenix is in flight, in all of its blue flame splendor! I think it was a nice touch to outline the Phoenix in light blue and have a gradient effect, so the core starts as a deep blue and gradually lightens as the colors expand outward. They avoided any spillover here as well, so with the dark black background, the Phoenix really pops!
Specifications
I paid $89 for this, compared to the regular uncirculated version that costs around $44. Even the regular uncirculated coins have a mintage of only 15,000. With this having a mintage of only 250, and considering the great eye appeal of this design, I can see this appreciating in value in the years to come.

Now that's a creative use of color.
Right? They did a good job with this one.
I haven't really owned colorized bullions, but I saw an older ASE from a friend and I guess the paint wears off poorly.
Yeah, on the older painted ASEs they don't always hold up the best. The modern ones aren't bad at all.

I'm with you on the colorized coins. There is just something about them that doesn't quite pop for me. I can handle a little black here or there, but that's about it.
Yeah, I hear you. I have one other colorized coin I got. I had been waiting quite a while for it. When I finally got it, I was disappointed at how dark it was compared to how vibrant the pictures made it appear.

That blue is pretty cool, with a nice low mintage you should do well. Really nice coin!

Blue... interesting! What about the color of fire, like red-orange.
Very low mintage on those. Nice coin!!!
!BBH
They do have one in red, but it's more of a pinkish hue so I passed on it. !LOL

I'd normally not really consider the colourised ones because of the premium but with that low mintage, why not.. I love it!
Yeah, I don't normally do colorized unless it's low mintage like this. Thanks! 😁
