Nineties Friday Week #4 with some Seinfeld

Welcome to #ninetiesfriday ! It's a new weekly event started by @geneeverett where you can share anything you like about the 1990's. Right now the winner(s) can receive up to 6 HSBI, not too bad for a brand new event! There have been some great entries made so far in the past few weeks. Like always I created a new banner with AI for the event, today the AI didn't cooperate real well, but I finally came up with something I semi-liked. What do you think?

I spent most of the decade outside of the United States living in South America and the Caribbean so my experience was not like most people's. I did catch up on the music and the TV as well, and there really were some great shows. I thought today I might start out by sharing some TV clips from the show "Seinfeld".

Seinfeld

pinterest.com

Seinfeld started in the late eighties but ran through most of the nineties and was one of the most successful television shows of all time. I always enjoyed watching the show every Thursday when a new episode came on followed by Friends while I was in the US. The main cast consisted of Jerry Seinfeld as a twisted version of himself, George Costanza played by Jason Alexander, Elaine played by Julia Louise-Dreyfus and Kramer played by Michael Richards. There were also numerous side characters among them my favorite was Newman (Wayne Knight) playing Jerry's nemesis.

As part of #ninetiesfriday I decided to share some clips from some of the episodes that I found hilarious. My first one had to include Newman driving his postal vehicle running fish on the side for a Chinese restaurant. In case you haven't seen it Kramer paints over the lines on the expressway two make two lanes instead of four causing a huge traffic problem. To fix it he brings out some paint thinner to remove the paint. This is from the episode "The Pothole":

Another character that is hard to forget is the Soup Nazi, from the episode with the same name. He's played by Larry Thomas. This episode is hilarious!

And the third clip comes from the episode called "The Alternate Side" when Jerry's car is stolen. It's pretty self explanatory:

Those are some funny episodes, and as a general rule they were all great shows. If you haven't had a chance to watch them it's well worth your while. The whole series is currently streaming on Netflix.

I usually like to share some songs from the nineties as well. I've been splitting them between mainstream English bands and Latin American bands since that was much of what I experienced during the decade. So today I thought it would be fun to hear one of my favorite bands from down under!

AC/DC

somosfan.com

Thunderstruck was released in 1990 and has become one of the band's most lucrative songs. The reason behind this is that in order to be used in a movie the band gets paid one million dollars US. Originally written by Angus Young after the plane he was on was struck by lightening, it sure became a huge cash cow. Here's some "Thunderstruck":

Selena

Moving on to the Latin music I decided to go with one of the biggest stars of the decade who had her life cut tragically short. Selena Quintanilla had just reached the top of the Latin music world as well as the English speaking world with an English album. Her fan club manager had been misusing funds and Selena confronted her about it and was shot dead on March 31, 1995 at age 23. Such a shame...

But here is one of her biggest hits "Como La Flor":

That will do it for this edition of #ninetiesfriday . I hope you had some fun watching the Seinfeld clips as well as the music. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave then below. And have a great weekend everyone!

And a quick shoutout @inthenow since I'm sharing some heavy metal music today, even though it was only one song!

And since I am posting in the #freecompliments community I just wanted to remind everyone to take some time today to be kind. A little kindness can make a huge difference in someone's life. Please check out the community and consider joining us!

I don't know any of these entertainers, maybe it's because I was born in the early ninetys even though, I didn't watch a lot of movies or entertainers growing up, except for indigenous and blues when I was a teenager.

That's understandable because where you grew up. If you ask someone from Venezuela they would likely be clueless about the show, though most would know AC/DC and Selena because they were popular throughout South America.

How are you feeling today?

I wasn't big on south American entertainment though, even in Nigeria we were mainly into African countries and blues. We mostly stuck to these.

Well, I'm alright, at least I can say. I have my D appointment in three days and the cost of transportation is higher because no fuel on the country.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. Is there a country wide shortage of fuel right now?

It's one of the reasons why I wanted to even leave this country. There's actually fuel, but the marketers are hoarding and releasing very little to the market so they can make more money at the expense of people

Seinfeld was an awesome show, I think they called it quits a couple seasons early though. And very few are good as AC/DC in concert. I guess the lesson from Selena is be careful who you trust with your money... it is sad!

One of my favorites on Seinfeld was the soup Nazi so classic Seinfeld Lol!!!🤣😊
Kramer painting over the lines on the “ Expressway “☺️
Been born and raised in Cincinnati, me and the Mrs. always referred to I 75 as the expressway. After moving to Colorado and then onward to the northwest no one knew what expressways were Lol!😇

Love me some Seinfeld!

It’s wild Thunderstruck is from 1990. I mean now going back to late seventies to nineties feels like forever! But that’s like a band that had a record out in 2008 then now.
It’s almost like the culture was so much more packed back then so it feels just different! Strange days in the 21st century 🎸🍻

I don't watch much on network anymore, mostly just streaming these days. So the only Seinfeld I see is on Netflix!

Nice.. I'll take it! AC/DC is tops.. specially the OG AC/DC from the 70's. I gave the parental units a good bit of grief when Highway To Hell was released, had that on repeat and loud as I could get it lolz. Might have to add my two cents to this Nineties Fridays perhaps.

Have a great weekend!

AC/DC was great back in the 70's, but Brian Johnson launched them to new heights in the 80's It's hard to go wrong with some good old AC/DC!

You have a great weekend too!

One of the funniest characters, it's a shame they only had him in one episode. Technically a cameo in the last episode as well I guess. He was hilarious!

You have a good project of sharing 1990's shows. It is great.
I am interested in the other projects you mentioned. Please explain it more to me.

This one isn't technically my project, it @geneeverett 's creation. On Friday's you just share anything from the 1990's in a post using the tag #ninetiesfriday and that gets you entered. Right now there is a a prize of 6 HSBI units for the weekly winner, I'm not positive how that is picked. You could ask @geneeverett on that point.

We would love to have you join in the fun!
