Selling More Old LEGOs To Make Some Extra Cash

avatar

Thursday already! This week is cruising by! It's a been awhile since I did a LEGO post so I decided the is no time like the present. I have been buying and selling LEGOs for years now, and it is a nice side hustle. The hard part is finding the LEGOs at a good price. Thrift stores on occasion can have some nice sets or mini-figures that have been donated, but it's hit and miss. I might find something good maybe once or twice a month. But most trips are a complete bust and I walk away empty handed...

First off I like to share some of the expensive LEGO's out there for sale. I have shared some precious metal ones in the past, but today's is plastic. In 2013 at the San Diego Comic-Con they gave out 200 Green Arrow mini-figures with a hood and is the second most expensive plastic mini-figure. Every time they do this the mini-figures become very valuable. The asking price on one of these is $6,800! Way more that I would be willing to pay, that's for sure.

It would have been fun to have won one of these, but that means you have to go to Comic-Con which is not a cheap event to attend!

Now it's time to dive into some I've recently sold. This was a very small set called Prison Rescue, or something like that. It came with three mini-figures, a horse, and a cart. First up have a look at the three figures.

This was a rather uncommon set, and I believe it sold for $40. Not too bad a profit! I think I paid five dollars for it at at garage sale.

Next up I have an Emmet from the LEGO movie. He's not a particularly expensive item but should sell well, for two or three dollars. He comes from a lot I've already recouped my funds on so he will be profit only! Some LEGO movie or LEGO city items do sell well. Just make sure they have instructions and a near complete build to make your life easier. Replacing parts can be hard and expensive!

Next up is an Auto Delivery truck driver. Not real uncommon but should bring in five dollars if I'm lucky!

This guy is a Wind Surfer with a lifejacket on, however no wind surfer equipment was present. I should still be able to get may five dollars on him.

Major Quentin Steele comes from a series know as Monster Hunters. They didn't sell very well so there aren't a ton of these, so I might be able to eight dollars for him. All pure profits!

Sherriff Not a Robot is from the LEGO movie. Even though he holds to the belief that he's not a robot he obviously is one. He came with a horse as you can see below, and I'll be pairing them together to get a better price. He also comes with a couple of guns which I have to dig out, but he is a pretty cool mini-figure!

And riding his horse

Gordon Zola is a chef from the LEGO movie. Not worth a whole lot, I'll ask around six dollars and see what happens.

Alfie the Apprentice is another LEGO movie character. These more obscure characters tend to be very slow movers. I'll ask around eight dollars but the first offer for five he'll be out the door!

So today I shard some fun characters I have been getting ready to put up for sale. The first set with the Knight's was the best. If you look around every now an again you get lucky. Just be sure to look for near complete sets with instruction booklets, it makes them much easier to sell. Please feel free to ask any question or add some comments below. I really do appreciate all of your support. And if you are going to try your luck with LEGOs I wish you good hunting, every now and again you'll find a gem in the rough!

Man, they really have come a long way from when I was playing with them. I can't believe the variety. That armor on the knights is way sweeter than anything I had. I love the Green Arrow guy too!

I wish they would have had all that cool stuff when I was a kid! That Green Arrow would be a nice one to own, but I'm not about to pay $6,800 for one! lol

Haha, no. I don't think I would either. Even if money were no object. I still don't think I would buy it.

You could buy a couple nice gold coins with that kind of money!

It's true, getting LEGOs at a good price is an odyssey, but when you find those treasures, the excitement is something else. I'm impressed by the value of some minifigures like the Green Arrow one, what a crazy price! For me it's a shame I can't go to Comic-Con and it's always been one of my dreams.

I’ve got to start looking for LEGO in the charity shops, looks like some good wins there for you.

It's all hit or miss, sometimes there is some great stuff, and others just worthless bags of random bricks. Without instructions or mini-figures it's hard to sell!

Toys really have become so much cooler than we were kids... What brand are you building right now?

Anything LEGO gives out at Comic-Con always becomes really expensive!

It's all luck! I go to several thrift stores weekly and garage sales on the weekend. I show up early and every now and again you find something good! Living in Orange County helps out too, large population who donate and more stores!

Very true, my son always told me living close to Seattle, he had a better chance of picking up quality items at thrift stores….
People tend to discard more if they have more disposable income !😊

People got them for free as a prize at San Diego Comic-Con, but tickets to attend are over one thousand dollars. I won't be going anytime in the near future! Actually never, I would never pay that admission price!

I think Pirates of Caribbean and the Batman old movie catalog would eventually become scarce and may make more money.

Pirates of the Caribbean sets do make money as to the older Batman ones. The modern Batman ones aren't worth much, but the older ones are pretty valuable!

Did you set the asking price of these lots based on their character? Or is there a general price scheme which you've followed?

0

I base them on comparable characters on eBay generally. Some have a very broad asking price and I usually go with the lower end unless mine is in perfect condition (which almost never are, kids are hard on toys!)

Oh that's considerable. I forgot about eBay entirely. Truly kids are hard on toys and most times good, cleaner stuff should pack better price

I've found a few ziplock baggies of ordinary Lego but no luck finding any with the collectable figures.

Thanks! There is a lot of competition, so it means waking up early to got to garage sales on Saturdays and hit the thrift stores nearby a few a week. Most of the time there's nothing good, every now and again you get lucky!
