Trivia Tuesday is a series in which I choose a topic, and provide Fun Facts or Interesting Trivia about it. This time the topic is the Windows Operating System.

Windows Trivia

Windows is named after its use of panels named "windows" for its graphical user interface.

1. Windows 10 S Mode

An edition of Windows 10 that focuses on security and performance. It restricts users to installing applications only from Windows store.

Many Laptops are released with Windows 10 S. I'm glad it's something that you can opt out of. I wonder if Microsoft pays manufacturers to have them release PCs in this mode.

2. Windows ME

Windows Millennium Edition was my first computer, my father bought for me a PC when I was a child because I did well in school, and it came with Windows ME.

Apparently, it was one of the buggiest versions of Windows, especially compared to Windows XP which was released a few years later.

3. Blue Screen of Death

The blue screen that appears when Windows encounters a critical error that forces it to halt. It's commonly known as BSOD.

I know this screen... I've seen it countless times.

4. Internet Explorer

The internet browser that used to come with older Windows versions. It was replaced with Microsoft Edge.

There's this meme that it's the slowest (and buggiest) browser of its time.

5. Windows Movie Maker

A popular Video Editing software that was bundled with Windows XP through Windows 7.

I had a lot of fun playing with Windows Movie Maker as a teenager, I created many (admittedly awful) short movies using gaming screenshots I took while playing with emulators.

6. Clippy 📎

Clippy was a virtual assistant in older version of Microsoft Office. It's infamous for its irritating comments and paperclip appearance .

While it was annoying, I'm now nostalgic for it for some reason.

7. Compatibility Mode

A mode that allows older software to run on newer version of Windows. Compatibility Mode was introduced in Windows 95.

I'm amazed at how old the mode was. I remember it's the first thing I'd use whenever I encountered a problem using an application.

8. Windows Defender

Originally an anti-spyware program, Windows Defender evolved into complete anti-virus abd anti-malware application since Windows 8.

I didn't like Windows Defender at first. I'm tolerating it better now since I have computers that aren't slowdown much by it.

I might do another "Windows" Trivia Tuesday, in the future. I feel I can do better than these 8 points I've chosen, but I wanted to post this in time for this Tuesday.
