Weekend Engagement - Can't Live Without My Phone

image.png

Could you live without your mobile phone for one weekend? Answer why or why not and what challenges you'd face, or benefits you'd gain.

It might seem easy for some people to live without their mobile phone for one weekend, but for me, it's really not possible. Hahaha!

Maybe 5 or 10 years ago, it would have been possible for me because the mobile phones aren't that powerful. But these days, mobile phones are so powerful and packs so many devices and apps, and not having one would definitely affect my quality of living.

So here's what I use mobile phone on a daily basis:

  • Communication

I use my phone to communicate with my friends, be it over Whatsapp or Discord. These days, most people have busy schedules and it's not always easy to catch up over a face to face setting. Having group chats where we can discuss anything under the sun, or just share interesting moments about our life with one another, is quite a nice thing to do. If I were to drop this, I think I would be more lonely and might have find something else to occupy my time.

Other than that, I think the mobile phone serves as an mode of communication for emergencies as well. If my family and loved ones need to reach out for me, I think it would be a little too delayed if I don't have access to mobile phone for an entire weekend, especially if there is an emergency.

  • Mobile Games

I use my phone to play quite a number of mobile games, including Splinterlands. Most of the games, I am just a casual player, and I think the unintended and unexpected outcome of these games is that I get to make friends with people with common interests. To be honest, most games are pretty boring when you play on your own. But with friends, you cheer one another and/or complain about one's bad luck in draws, and that makes it more fun. If you are curious, I do play Empire and Puzzles and Monopoly GO too! I suppose I could do without mobile games without a weekend if I had no choice, it's something good to have and I have taken a break from gaming while I was overseas recently too.

  • Current Affairs

The world is so fast moving these days. A big event that happens anywhere in the world will be all over the Internet within minutes, or seconds. I rely on my phone to keep up to date on current affairs, which is partly my personal interest, and partly due to the nature of my job. I was about to include financial markets, because I do spend time to keep track of the markets and stocks in my watchlist, but they aren't opened during weekend, so that's not an issue... Or is it? The crypto markets are opened 24/7!!! It's probably not recommended, but I find it exciting to be checking out prices of cryptos these days. It's so fascinating seeing the prices moving like a rollercoaster.

In any case, I am a little mixed on whether this can be dropped, because sometimes timely information might be important. This could be news about areas with flash floods during heavy rain (and I would want to avoid), or bomb scares in shopping malls (during my recent visit to Johor Bahru). Not having access to these information might be detrimental.

In conclusion, like most things in life, being too extreme is often not the best approach. While we shouldn't be addicted to using the mobile phone all day, there is also no need to put it away for an entire weekend. Now, let me get back to my mobile phone, hehe!

So that's all for my sharing this week! Thanks for reading and have a pleasant week ahead!

Thank you for your honesty. Nowadays most of us are addicted to the cell phone, we use it for too many things. It would do us good to get away from it for a weekend. Hahaha.

If we can still give ourselves the freedom to do without the use of the cell phone for a week or more, then we are not yet in serious trouble. The issue is to partially or totally reduce dependence on this small device. Mainly because of the multiple affections to our physical and mental health.

I understand that in this technological era is very useful a cell phone but always our health must be above all.

Thank you very much dear @relf87 for sharing your interesting reflections!

Greetings and Merry Christmas!
