Weekend Engagement - Who Still Remembers Street Fighter?
I miss letters and having pen pals.
I remembered I was always excited when I received letters from my friends or cousins during my schooling years. It's fun opening the letters, and reading the lengthy paragraphs of words (sometimes with cute drawings and stickers) and then penning them a letter in response. There were no mobile phones or the Internet back in those days (almost 30 years ago?), at least in my household, so the only mode of communication was by telephone or writing letters. The fact that it took several days for the letter to reach the other party made each exchange more precious.
These days, people text (Whatsapp) and technology has transformed so rapidly and hardcopy letters have become redundant. I wouldn't say it is better or worse now because there are always pros and cons to each mode of communication, but it was something that gave me happiness at the point in my life then.
I miss hardcopy photographs.
I am not sure the age group of the readers of this post, but back in my younger days, people used cameras with rolls of film. When you snapped a photo, you had no idea how the photo would turn out until you bring the film to those photography stores (I only remember Kodak) and wait for hours (or even a few days) for them to transform those images on the film onto hardcopy photos.
Similar to letters, the world is moving faster these days and you can easily snap a high quality photo with a mobile phone and print these photos using an instant photo printer. But interestingly, most people only keep digital forms of photos these days and I hardly see hardcopies around these days. Even though they are essentially the same image, I think it feels different flipping through the physical copies vs swiping through the phone.
I miss the Street Fighter arcade machines! (not sure how many of you would know what are those ><)
I remember I would play the Street Fighter arcade machines in the amusement arcades whenever my parents brought me there. I would even save up my pocket money which my parents gave me just to exchange more tokens to play the game! It was fun memorising those combinations of attacks and rotate the joystick to execute the moves. One can always battle it out with friends too!
These days, I hardly see these machines in the amusement arcades. The games now are mostly claw machines (where one tries to grab plushies or keychains) or fun fair type of games like throwing balls, which are fun in their own way as well.
So that's all for my sharing this week! Hope you enjoyed my sharing and let me know what you think! Thanks for reading and have a pleasant weekend ahead!
Great post you have there. You reminded me of that Pen pal thing. When I was young I wanted to have one. I never had the chance till it faded out. I guess it was something fun and great.
For the pictures, I think soft copies are better. Losing the hard copy is easier than the soft one. with the soft, I think you can store it somewhere where you will always have access to it no matter where you are.
Thanks for the kind comment! Yeah different times we live in now and we just have to adapt to the new norm!
Thanks for sharing
You are welcome!
