What Would A Play by Post RPG Game Look Like on HIVE?

I've been an off-and-off tabletop gamer for 40 years since I first played a red box D&D game when I was 12. I'm old enough that I lived through the "satanic panic" of the 1980s and had to hide my D&D books from my Baptist parents! Absolutely ancient.

I run various RPG games occasionally for some friends on Discord, and last night as I lay in bed contemplating the utility of Hive and its communities - I considered "What would a play-by-post (PBP) RPG game look like on Hive?"

Hive has a group of people who are strong at periodic engagement, writing, conscientiousness, and cooperation - some of the attributes needed to have a successful decentralized and perhaps asynchronous game.

Reading through forums about running PBP games, a frequent piece of reoccurring advice was "Don't!" It appeared many games frequently just sort of tapered off.

Some other advice I saw was to use mechanics in the style of a Westmarches campaign where players can explore a randomly generated map independently from each other.

Some streamlined mechanics seem like it would expedite gameplay, and those that employ more narrative-friendly mechanics.

I thought there might also be some interesting ways to tokenize the game, using existing community tokens, but I haven't fully developed the idea.

What are your thoughts?

What PBP game would you play on Hive?
What mechanics or rulesets would be more likely to work here?
What other factors could make a PBP game succeed on Hive?

I want to participated in something similar. It was called IBT… international battle tournament… her name has become something else now, but back then there was a bot that would respond to the Commands. The boat would auto generate numbers that represented game mechanics and then comment. It was elaborate in my opinion. Fun and it worked best if people elaborate on their story. I thought it was fun. It stoked to creative fire.
I tried scrolling back to find some posts, but it was agonizing. I think all that was back in 2018. 🫣

I think I found a reference to it. That's fascinating on the bot!
If I ran one I'd have to create some mechanics that would accommodate some asynchronous play - and expedite combat without making it entirely predictable.

Oh… yah it was on Stee… anyway…
Here’s a gif featuring the cast of characters, my character named, “Angel Food” battled.

You have legitimate "veteran" status then! Recalling memories from the STEEM chain before crossing over to Hive.

I enjoy conversations with people who have those memories and have continued to create content on Hive.

I'm looking at the Pathfinder Rule Set now with just the core rules, and making some notes. It very similar to D&D 3.5

So many words my infantile DND experience understands… is DnD 3.5 a iPad/tablet enhanced version of the game I played in the 90’s?

It was probably what most people played between 2003 and 2014 when D&D 5ed came out.
D&D 4th Edition never gained much popularity with the players I knew.

The bot seemed essentially for the random game mechanics and writing prompt. ❤️‍🔥

Blockchain RPG would be fun and profitable, it would be especially fun if participation rewarded a token, sort of like @vote-com SECRET token. Or dungeoncities DRUBBLE token.

I've thought about that some, it might be interesting to leverage existing tokens - BBH, ARCHON, PIZZA, ALIVE with rewards, but also some burn mechanisms.

IE burn 0.01 ARCHON for advantage on your next roll of the dice.

In some ways it could act as a meta-connection between these existing communities and tribes (hopefully).

I'm still in the information gathering phase - but I do have some creative impulses flowing.

If it's well run, don't be afraid to ask for an HBD entry fee to fund the game and rewards. HBD savings alone would grow the fund 15% APR
