Roll baby roll

When you turn a log, decayed twig, or old firewood sometimes you can find some small critter there. That time was no different, I was checking on the decayed twig in search of fungi, mold, or mushrooms, but then I found these small shining things half-rolled.

So I stopped my mushroom hunt a little bit to try to take a few shots of this creature. I tried to look on Google to find the name of this creature. It might be Glomeris marginata or Phil Millipede. It very similar to a woodlouse and at first I really thought it was a woodlouse.

What I like about this creature is the shiny exoskeleton which reflects the diffuser of my flash. So it can be easily distinguished from the surroundings. I think they are beneficial to the environment as they could decompose the organic matter. And what is interesting from the source above, is that they can live up to 11 years. How cool is that?

We call those Rolly Polly’s where I’m from :D they are cool! Funny enough they are more of a crustacean like a shrimp or lobster than anything and aren’t really a bug!

Great shots as always man!

they are really an interesting creature. And when we hear about crustaceans we might think of shrimps, lobster or anything that is near water, but we have these kinds of crustaceans that live on land. very fascinating. : )
