Splinterlands Brawl Report (31st March 2023). My best GLADIUS card pulled ever!

THGaming Guilds - Placed : 2nd, 5th, 5th

Another tough week in THGaming Brawlers guild with our three Guilds placing 2nd, 5th & 5th. We are still looking for active Splinterlands Brawlers to join us and win some $SPS. @doomz is my 2nd Splinterlands account, which plays Brawls in THGaming 2 Guild, where I managed to get 5 Wins 2 Losses. Not a bad week for me from a personal Brawling perspective.

For this Brawl week THGaming2 emerged as our highest placed Guild with a 2nd placed finish! Below you can see the summarized Guild performances and $SPS winnings.

THGAMING Guild Brawl Finishes and Rewards

🏆 THGaming Brawlers (5th place) TIER 3 BRAWLS - The guild has won spoils of 56 Crowns in the latest brawl! Also, each fully participating member was awarded 2,800 Merits and 38.514 staked SPS.

🏆 THGaming 1 (5th place) TIER 1 BRAWLS - The guild has won spoils of 9 Crowns in the latest brawl! Also, each fully participating member was awarded 485 Merits and 8.857 staked SPS.

🏆 THGaming 2 (2nd place) TIER 1 BRAWLS - The guild has won spoils of 18 Crowns in the latest brawl! Also, each fully participating member was awarded 831 Merits and 12.907 staked SPS.

I'm sure most of you already know that @splinterlands has made Guild Brawls truly profitable and Guild Brawlers now win staked $SPS Tokens for Brawl participation. The amount of $SPS you earn is dependent on your Guild Tier (Arena level), Guild Participation (how many Freys are filled) and how well you actually finish in the Brawl each week.

My Guild THGaming Brawlers has moved up to Tier 3 Brawls after getting our Guild Arena up to level 5. The competition is a lot fiercer and we often find ourselves matched against Top 10 Guilds and some real 'Splinterlands Whales'.

With the addition of the new Soulbound Summoners and the new CONSCRIPT ABILITY & RULESET, which allows the use of one additional Gladiator card in (League) battles, Gladius Cards are a lot more valuable and Guild Brawls are the only way to earn MERIT POINTS used to buy these Gladius Packs! If you aren't in a Brawling Guild and want to start earning $SPS & MERITS, we'll happily Welcome you into the THGaming fam.

My Goldfoil Brawl Performances

This week I was able to win 5 out of 8 Brawls. The competition is a LOT harder in Tier 3 and I'm up against accounts with levelled Gold Summoners and Monsters. As usual in almost every battle I was 'outgunned by card levels' so a lot of strategic renting is needed to consistently win Brawl matches. Overall though I was pretty happy with my performance and the Guild would have placed higher if we didn't have 1 player decide not to play their Brawl this week, costing us 9 losses! Let's just say the other Guild members are not happy with this player.

Brawl Deets : I played BRAWL FREY 15 (Silver Level GOLD CARDS, all Series allowed). I currently own 96 Gold Cards including 5 Summoners (Water, Earth, Fire, Death, Life), however I rent a number of Cards for Gold Brawls, including the DRAGON Summoner : DELWYN DRAGONSCALE . The Gold card rentals also add to my Card Power and allow me to be more competitive when playing Wild or Modern league matches.

Reviewing Three Brawl Battles - Frey 15

Most readers don't have time to go through overly detailed posts, so I will summarize three battles - 2 wins and 1 loss. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments.

Jim-Crypto - Brawl Battle Review 1 (Win)

38 Mana - RULESET : Close Range, Weak Magic

In this battle I have 2 rented Goldfoil Cards (the rest are owned by me) :

1. DELWYN DRAGONSCALE : a COMMON Dragon Summoner and must have for Gold Brawls. He is one of the cheapest Dragon Summoners out there to Rent, and his increased Magic Damage make him very useful in almost all Splinters, except FIRE which doesn't have the strongest magic attackers. He costs $44 as a Goldfoil version (level 4) to buy, and only 2 $DEC to rent (per day).
2. WOOD NYMPH : the COMMON Earth Unit, is a handy healer and also pretty cheap on the market, as a rental at least. She costs $16 as a Goldfoil version (level 4) to buy, and only 1 $DEC to rent (per day).

THE FIGHT : I used FUNGUS FLINGER in the front to take advantage of his MARTYR ABILITY, for the sole purpose of boosting my 2nd Row Card TERRACEOUS HULK (my best Soulbound Reward Card pulled so far). As soon as FUNGUS FLINGER died, TERRACEOUS HULK was boosted +1 in all stats, which allowed him to tank a lot more of the damage up front. Half way through I thought I'd lost this battle, but luckily some amazing work by KATRELBA GOBSON, as her Bloodlust Ability triggered 5 times, almost single handedly won me the battle.

LESSON LEARNT : As usual DELWYN DRAGONSCALE (Summoner) combined really well with EARTH units, but again it was a GLADIUS card and Bloodlust that got me the victory. Great work by KATRELBA GOBSON!

Jim-Crypto - Brawl Battle Review 2 (Win)

31 Mana - RULESET : Stampede, Fire and Regret, Silenced Summoners

In this battle I have 2 rented Goldfoil Cards (the rest are owned by me) :

1. FERNHEART : an EPIC Earth Summoner, which I used because of the 'Silenced Summoner' ruleset. A level 2 Epic summoner allows higher levelled Monster cards to be used than my Gold OBSIDIAN (rare lvl 2) and, as they cost the same mana, it was a no brainer to choose FERNHEART. He costs $31.5 as a Goldfoil version (level 2) to buy, and only 2.37 $DEC to rent (per day).
2. WOOD NYMPH : again I went with the WOOD NYMPH as a 2nd Healer in this monster lineup. She costs $16 as a Goldfoil version (level 4) to buy, and only 1 $DEC to rent (per day).

THE FIGHT : This was a very similar battle to the first one I reviewed and again KATRELBA GOBSON was on fire with her double SNEAK hits and BLOODLUST ability triggering 5 times, doing the most damage by far!

LESSON LEARNT : Work with the Ruleset and try to use strong gladius cards wherever possible. Even up against a super speedy WATER attack, my Gladius card just proved just too powerful once BLOODLUST triggered.

Jim-Crypto - Brawl Battle Review 3 (Loss)

53 Mana - RULESET : Broken Arrows, Armored Up, Melee Mayhem

It's important to review your losses and figure out where you went wrong. Two crucial missed attacks probably cost me this game.

In this battle I did not used any Rentals, all Goldfoil cards are owned by me.

THE FIGHT : This was a relatively close battle with us both going for the FIRE splinter and heavy MELEE attacks, which made sense with the 'Melee Mayhem' Ruleset. Two misses against GARGOYA LION by my Gladius Card GORTH almost certainly cost me the game. The RNG (Random Number Generation) or 'luck' of Splinterlands means that Monsters with flight have a 25% chance of being missed when attacked by MELEE or RANGED damage, and the RNG was not on my side today as my GARGOYA LION didn't have any misses when being attacked, but my opponent's FLIGHT (RNG) did.

LESSON LEARNT : My opponent had higher levelled cards in this Brawl Battle which was maybe the difference between winning and losing. It's not cheap to buy / rent higher levelled Goldfoil Cards for these Brawl battles, so I just work with what I've got; renting high level Goldfoils in EVERY Splinter would bankrupt me every week! However, after this battle I did level up my Goldfoil GARGOYA LION to Level 4 which should give him a bit more punch in my next Brawl.

My Best Gladius Card ever pulled!

Amazingly I was able to pull an Epic Goldfoil GLADIUS CARD after this last brawl, probably the most highly rated Gladius card out there : the super powerful QUORA TOWERSHEAD (seen below) with her MAGIC and MELEE Damage, as well as self HEALING and BLOODLUST, making her an unstoppable force in many siutations! Welcome to my Gold Gladius family. She is my first Goldfoil EPIC Gladius card in the EARTH Splinter and is going to come in very useful for future brawls and now league Battles (thanks to the CONSCRIPT Summoner ABILITY & RULESET) .

While Quora is an absolute beast of a card, there is a good chance she will be 'Banished' from Brawls, which is a 'Guild Skill' unlocked at BARRACKS level 3 (seen below). The most common banned cards are QUORA TOWERSHEAD, YODIN ZAKU and SCARRED LLAMA MAGE, all incredibly powerful cards in their own right; although sometimes you'll see less OP Summoners banned like KELYA FRENDUL or OBSIDIAN.
