Pokemon Type Swap 6 — Poison Caterpie

Welcome to Pokemon Type Swap!

In this series i will be taking classic pokemon and changing their type — creating a new, fresh look. I am currently picking pokemon in no particular order and choosing a type i think would fit. Comment any suggestions for future ones below.

Todays pokemon is Caterpie, i have chosen to draw it as a Poison type.

Orginial Sketch & Outline

I kept the main shape of Caterpie the same, however i gave it a stinger so it can poison prey/threats. I covered the body in spikes, when i looked up poisonous caterpillars on google they all looked fluffy, but i couldn’t manage to replicate this well so settled for spikes. I kept the antenna on its head the same as this is a pretty recognisable part of Caterpie, although i did consider changing it.

Colour & Shading

I chose bright colours to signify the poisonous of it. As a lot of poisonous creatures found in nature are brightly coloured. I didn’t try any other colour schemes as i liked how the first one turned out.

I then added shading to give it sone shape and make it less flat

Background

I then added a background. I put Caterpie on some leaves and added bite marks out of the main leaf, as caterpillars would to eat. I think this is my favourite background so far and want to aim for this standard in the future.
