We Are Family is one of the most popular singles by the American band Sister Sledge. The composers of the song are Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. It was the first song that Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards recorded for someone other than Chic. His band's recent success with the single Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah) led the president of Atlantic Records to ask him to record more hits for the label's other musicians.

Atlantic Records initially rejected the song, but it was released as a single in April 1979 and became the band's biggest hit. In 1979, a music video was also filmed to promote the single.

In fact, this single has been used as an expression of solidarity in various contexts, as it is an anthem of the We Are Family Foundation, founded by Nile Rodgers in the United States after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
