RE: The Cost of Things, November 2024

Wow! $50 seems pretty expensive for not a lot of things! And 2 cartons of eggs? Yikes! We go through 15 dozen a week. They tried to limit me a while back to 5 dozen at the store, so I had to split up my cart and have kids pay in different lines! The men in my family need their eggs! Ha! My chicken have started producing more recently, thankfully, so now I don't have to buy as much. I buy eggs here on Thursdays when they're 20% off, so they're $1.56 a dozen at the moment. Gas looks super cheap! Nice!

I really hope gas prices stay low and get lower. Our family will have egg laying chickens some day, but most likely not here in the suburbs. 15 dozen eggs a week? That would be a lot of eggshells for our compost! !BBH

Yes, I have been drying out and grinding up the eggshells and refeeding them to the chickens, but I got behind. Now I just throw them in the coop with the rest of the scraps that go to the chickens. My husband and oldest boys eat the majority of the eggs - they drink them raw in a shake to get more protein for their ever-increasing muscle mass thanks to lifting weights.
Eggs are a good source of protein. My wife just ordered beef geletin to put in our oatmeal to suppliment our missing eggs. Still, not the same. !BBH
