Protein Shakes
Protein shakes are usually taken after a workout. they're usually whey protein (or you can get plant protein), and the point of them is if you're not getting enough protein in your diet to support your weight training, protein shakes can be a quick and convenient source of protein to increased your intake.
Any time I buy pre formulated stuff that has protein powder in it, it always has this odd taste. My friends made me a shake at home and they seemed to like them. I drank mine coz they made it for me but it was still not good . In my experience, it's hard to find a good one. So many of them are apparently under-dosed in their ingredients. In most of them that I've seen, it seems that caffeine does most of the work - so if you use them too often you build a tolerance, and they're no longer as effective (as well as building caffeine addiction). I personally don't use them. If I did need an extra boost before a workout, I'd rather just have an extra cup of coffee. Also, just getting enough sleep might be the better option in a lot of cases.
