RE: Voting, auto voting, forgetting to vote or REALLY read and vote?
You are viewing a single comment's thread:
Have a look at https://hivestats.io/ and look up your account.
Scroll down and you get to the voting efficiency section.
There is a correlation between the time you vote and your payout as well as the weight of the votes before/after you and your payout.
If you vote within the first few minutes after a post is published you get less curation rewards.
This is to deterr the autovoters a little bit, give people time to consume and read your posting. Then vote based on the content.
If you discover a gem and vote before the majority comes in you are rewarded for genuinly liking it even though it is not "pushed" by a few hundred votes.
If you "hop on" to a post that already has hundreds of (heavy?) votes you don't get that much reward because you most likely "just followed the masses".
I don't autovote.
I give my vote depending on the content, the effort and the quality.
How is the formatting and the structure? Easy to read/follow or thoughtles rambling? Sectioning into paragraphs, dividing headlines?
Spelling and grammar have a little influence as well sometimes, if the mistakes are overwhelming.
Do the pictures/graphics go along with the text? Are they random stock pics or the author's own design? Maybe a combination, like designing their own cover with free stock graphics from canva?
Is the material sourced/cited?
And last but not least (depends on the topic): Did it make me smile? Can be humor, can be an epiphany, can be many reasons. Smiling doesn't have to mean it's funny. Just that I feel reading it was time well spent.
In my oppinion that is the original thought Hive was built on and I try keeping that alive.
I try to keep my mana between 70 and 90 percent. The moment it reaches 100 I waste recharge time and the moment I get below 70 I lose too much value.
Great, now this has turned into a post on its own.
Bah, the sloth in me says: "already written, don't want to put time into a header image and format on a comment is a lwoer standard than on a post. Leave it be! Also: Don't hijack his thread, the meme for that is already burned."
So bye bye for now, see you later...

Ah, just caught this reply! Thanks for the explanation, it could indeed have been a post on it's own, one to write in future, they always get a good response. I'll need to add some sloth time to my voting then, try get the perfect balance.
I tried out an autovote frontend once and I remember it had a delay setting.
At least for the autovotes on accounts you follow that might be worth investigating, voting 10 minutes after the post is published.
As for following a trail, I guess there it is best to be as close as possible, the 10 minute window should already be long gone when those votes arrive.
