The Addams Family kicks off Nineties Friday

Before I get going, I love Halloween so I'm getting a bit of a head start this week! And being a Friday I will be sharing a Nineties Friday post yet again. Let's start the fun!

As a kid I remember watching the reruns of The Addams Family TV show from the mid 1960's. It was fun show that I used to watch along with Gilligan's Island, this was probably in the early 80's and they still played the reruns. In 1991 Barry Sonnenfeld directed the first movie version of the old TV classic starring Christopher Lloyd, Raul Julia, and Angelica Houston. It quickly became a favorite of a whole new generation of fans for the franchise. And what better way to start the Halloween season than with the Addams?

Christopher Lloyd put on a brilliant performance as Uncle Fester, a huge departure from his fame as Doc Brown from Back to the Future. Raul Julia was an amazing Gomez Addams adding so much passion to the character, and Angelica Houston as Morticia was simply brilliant. We also get to see the beginning Christina Ricci's acting career as the very dark character Wednesday Addams.

The sequel was equally a fun movie, but a third never happened due to the death of Raul Julia in 1994 from stomach cancer. Cancer is a a nasty disease!

Boogie Nights

maxim.com

This 1997 film by Paul Thomas Anderson features and all star cast and is considered one of the best films of the 1990's. The film was Mark Wahlberg's escape from his Marky Mark days breaking him into a serious actor. It's story revolves around a young porn star in the 1970's who develops a cocaine addiction and starts having trouble keeping his equipment "functional" due to the cocaine. Things start to get complicated from there ending up in a nice shootout at the end. Almost Tarantino style! If you haven't seen it it's a good film with some top notch actors, it also put Heather Graham into movie stardom.

And now for some music from the 90's!

Rob Zombie

prabook.com

Rob was obsessed with zombie's since the time he was a child and watched just about ever zombie flick ever made. In fact he named his first band "White Zombie" in tribute to the very first zombie movie ever made, "White Zombie" in 1932. He finally embraced the heavy metal genre in the late 80's and early 90's before embarking on a solo career that has treated him very well. With Halloween coming I thought it might be fun to listen to a song off of his album "Hellbilly Deluxe" from 1998. This one is "Living Dead Girl", and you can see his love of theatrics in this video!

Soundgarden

billboard.com

I know I've shared a lot of these guys lately, but they were such a great band. This band from Seattle really helped to bring the grunge musical movement to the forefront in the late 80's and early 90's. Since I'm warming up for Halloween I thought I might throw in one of their darker songs, "Black Hole Sun":

The Proclaimers

timeoutdubai.com

Ok it's not quite Halloween yet, so I have to throw in some fun stuff too! These twin brothers from Scotland ,like our good friend @tengolotodo , had their biggest hit with their 1988 album "Sunshine On Leith". It sold well in the UK, Australia, Iceland and several other countries but didn't break in to the US market. That is until 1993 when the song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" was included in the Jonny Depp film "Bennie & Joon". It's a movie I have never watched and likely never will, but it did put these guys on the map. It nearly topped the charts in the US in 1993, qualifying this song into the 90's! lol As a bonus, I did get to learn what the word "haver" meant as well thanks to this song. Look it up if you haven't heard it before! Here's "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)":

Because I spent most of the 1990's in countries that only really spoke Spanish I like to throw in a couple songs from the era as well.

Paulina Rubio

allure.com

Paulina started her career very young as a child singing in the popular group Timbiriche until 1991 before embarking on her successful solo career. She quickly gained a following in Mexico as well as the Latin American world. Some of her most popular work was release near the end of the 90's into the early 2000's with her album "Paulina". Although the album was released in 2000 it was mainly recorded in 1999, so I count it as a 90's album, this song is "Lo Haré Por Ti" (I'll Do It For You):

Chayanne

wallpapercave.com

I know I shared one of his last week is well, but he is one of the best Latin American male vocalists. This Puerto Rican artist started singing as a child in the group "Los Chicos" but went solo in the latter part of the 1980's. In the early 90's he had a string of number one hits, but his albums in the mid nineties didn't chart as well until the release of his album "Atado A Tu Amor" with his huge hit "Dejaría Todo" (roughly: I would give up everything). And this is the lead single of the album:

I do have to thank @jesuslnrs for reminding about this song in a post of his a couple weeks back!

That will wrap up the fun for this #ninetiesfriday. If you want to participate all you need to do is create a post about anything 1990's, your imagination is the limit. Just join the Nineties Friday community and publish it there and it's not a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett . One person will be chosen weekly at random to receive 6 HSBI units. Three from Gene and three from me, but we often give out bonuses to participants just for fun. If you have any question feel free to ask!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, I really appreciate all of your support. I managed to pass a huge milestone a couple days ago climbing above 5K HP, and that was only possible thanks to all of you here on the Hive community. Thanks everyone! Have a great weekend!

As always I will be sharing the wealth by giving 10% of my earnings to Comment Rewarder to be shared with those who engage my post within the first three days after posting.

Here in Venezuela the Addams Family began to be broadcasted in the early 70's, however I remember that I saw it in 85 and I remember that because in that year for the first time in my home there was a TV that was given to my mother and not everyone had a TV, well not everyone in the neighborhood where I lived.

I can't believe you closed with chayane, I don't know why but here in my country almost all the women are crazy about him, HAHAHAHAHAHA my wife is one of them, but then I remember that it will be very difficult for her to meet him, and she doesn't want to meet him, but she has all his songs, ok I can't deny that many of his songs are very good.

The Addams Family TV show was a lot of fun, I haven't watched it in years now... I went with Chayanne because in the 90's he was a legend. I thought about throwing in something salsa or merengue but went with Chayanne instead. Maybe next week I can throw some of that fun stuff in! Chayanne is actually a really cool guy in person, I met him at a party when I was living in Puerto Rico.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I always appreciate engagement. It's fun to get to know some new people!

Yes, that's what I fear about Chayanne, I know from many people that he is a great guy, in fact his wife of all his life is Venezuelan.

Yes she is, she was there too but I don't remember her name. Very pretty woman though! At the time my girlfriend knew all the right people and parties to go, and always had an invitation. Those were fun times!

I also grew up watching reruns of the original Adams Family. Altho in general I enjoyed the movie, I remember being upset that they didn't cast John Astin as Gomez and that Raul Julia acted so differently. But the movie ended up being one of the few VHS tapes my grandparents bought, so we ended up watching it many times every time we visited them and it grew on me. I'd almost put the second movie as better, but they are both really good.

John Astin was really funny as Gomez, but I think the director just had a different vibe in mind. I think the second movie was better in a lot of ways, I always wondered what they could have done with a third outing but they never got the chance. I haven't seen the original show in so long now, I'll have to see if it's free anywhere to stream.

So many times when they re-make a movie from a series it doesn't compare...
This movie featuring Raul Julia, was an instant hit with a new generation of Addams family viewers and my generation as well, that grew up with the original Addams family!!
I missed the sequel I'll have to check it out....😇😀

I think the sequel is really a little bit better than the first one. You'll enjoy it. They bring in Joan Cusack and she is really funny! The old show was a lot of fun too!

The 90s was a great time for movie fans. Forrest Gump, Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park were some I remember.

There were a lot of great movies in the 90's, I could do posts for a year with few a day, but I get bored posting the same kind of stuff daily. That's why my posts tend to vary and I love to throw in some weird surprised here and there!

The Addams movies never go out of style for me they are great, Wednesday Addams, known in Latin America as Merlina is one of the most beloved characters by the public, the second movie I did not know and reading about its plot has left me perplexed, as for the bands I do not know any, now Paulina yes and Chayanne not to mention one of the attractions of this man is that even at his age he continues to dance just as well and also has not lost his voice, excellent publication.

That Paulina one I put in because I saw it this week, she was really hot back then! I like throwing in Latin and Spanish artists and bands, it's a lot of fun! As a rule my 90's Friday post are all about fun stuff, giving me a break from the old routine! Glad you like the Latin stuff, I've got a lot of stuff to throw in there yet!

The Proclaimers haha, they did have some great singalong to songs....

500 miles yeah I must have heard a million and one people singing to it over the years...

The Addams family is class, every version I have seen has been superb!

I don't remember Rob Zombie though!

That was a fun song wasn't it? Those guys must be living decently off the royalties they still get from that one song! Rob Zombie was more heavy metal, so unless you were into it you might have missed him. He is zombie obsessed, even legally changed his last name to Zombie!
